Update: Fire call in 2400 block of SW Kenyon

ORIGINAL 11:10 PM REPORT: On our way to a house-fire call in the 2400 block of SW Kenyon.

11:18 PM UPDATE: Not a major incident. It appears that something caught fire inside the residence and was thrown or taken outside, and extinguished there. SFD is calling for its investigator, though.

11:21 PM UPDATE: Firefighters tell us some kind of debris in the home’s garage were smoldering, and filled the house with smoke, but again, out now, cause under investigation, no report of injuries.

SUNDAY NIGHT NOTE: The homeowners say in comments that investigators told them the fire was set; we had planned to follow up with SFD tomorrow regarding the cause and will update when we get that info.

Just had an Engine, ladder truck and Medic One fly past my bldg on the way there. Hope everyone including any pets got out safely.

HW, as noted above, turned out to be relatively minor. But as is required, the full-size house-fire response rolled, and we could hear all the sirens from here, more than a mile away! TR

Hey, there, WSB. We are huge fans of yours, but your info is not *quite* right in this story. We are the homeowners involved. We had some debris sitting in our driveway next to our house and that appears to have been intentionally set on fire, per SPD and the fire marshal. The fire did external and cosmetic damage but we were able to get it out before it got into our walls – thank goodness. Happy to report that we and our 3 cats are all safe, though a little freaked out. (Thank you for asking, Hockeywitch!) We haven’t received any status updates from SFD or SPD, but they seemed to be taking the case quite seriously as an arson investigation.

Thanks, but that’s what we were told at the scene, and that’s the best we can do, which is why it’s attributed. The info you mention must have emerged later. The SFD public-info officer works M-F except in case of HUGE incidents, and I will be talking to him tomorrow morning about both this incident and the auto-body shop fire from Friday night. Rather alarming that if they believe it was arson, they didn’t report it on SPD Blotter, or SFD’s Fire Lines (it’s not on the police-report map either http://web5.seattle.gov/mnm/policereports.aspx ), but I’ll be talking to SPD media relations in the morning too – TR

Sorry, comment time is over.
