Red Cup Espresso collecting donations for injured barista

(Atop the counter @ Red Cup; WSB photo, added Monday afternoon)
From Tricia at Red Cup Espresso in The Junction:

Red Cup will be accepting donations in support of one of our original baristas. Alex Paulsen Rice, who was in a bicycle accident last Thursday, shattered his clavicle and right shoulder, and is unable to work and pay bills. We would like to match every dollar donated from 9-12-11 to 9-17-11. We will have a donation box inside the shop on our counter as well as a card for friends and customers to sign.

Wasn’t he hit by a car while biking home from work?

SB – I am looking for more info; there was a bike crash in West Seattle on Thursday but the victim in that one (which I hope to have a story up about later) was female.

It must be terrible to be among the uninsured. I’ll be by to kick in, but the costs are bound to be outrageous. Sorry to hear about this.

So sorry to hear that! Will donate tomorrow morning.

Is that the one that happened on Avalon Way around 9ish?

If hit by a car… Their insurance should cover his expenses.

Wouldn’t that depend on who’s fault it was?

  • breezygirl September 12, 2011 (10:06 pm)

Regardless of who’s at fault he will still have other bills to pay like rent and food and electricity. Unfortunatly insurance doesn’t cover those sorts of things. My heart goes out to him.

Alex just got out of surgery and is very sore but doing good. He will be back home tomorrow hopefully. Huge thanks and much love to first Tricia and of course all others that are helping with this fund. He is so very grateful and blown away by your love and support. Everyone is right his daily expenses are going to be crazy so he really appreciates this. Thank you again, his mom
