Followup: Where to get help with a pet emergency

Last Friday, we published the story of a dog hit by a driver who didn’t stop, and the helpful people who did stop or in some other way help. Much discussion ensued in the comments, including information from the owner’s mom, who identified the Lab as Asia and later reported the dog had a dislocated hip. We don’t have a new update from Asia’s family, but we do have something that might help other pets and people in the future, courtesy of one of the people who assisted last Friday, Doug. He offered to compile a list of resources in case you need to find emergency care for an animal, so that we could link it from the WSB Lost/Found Pets page. We wanted to let you know that it’s at the top of that page now; Doug’s list includes clinics around the metro area, north to south. (If you have anything to add, we will do our best to keep it updated – e-mail the information to editor@westseattleblog.com. Thanks!)

THANK YOU so much Doug! I have always been wondering where to find this information compiled together. You just did a huge favor for all animal owners and lovers in your community. Much appreciated.

Great resource — but it would completely kick tush with a Google Map integration.

Great resource, now bookmarked! Chris, let us know when you have that map done and they can add it in.

This is great! I actually consulted this list last night when my bunny was having tummy issues. Thank goodness the vet I spoke to said we could wait until morning, and I could take my bunny to her normal rabbit vet. Such a great resource though! Thanks!!

We’ve had experience with a number of the emergency vet hospitals over the years. ACCES – Lake City gets our highest possible recommendation (haven’t used ACCES – Renton yet). Highly competent clinicians and compassionate staff.

Thank you so much for taking the time to research and compile this. And moreover, for sharing it with the W. Sea. community. (and WSB for being an available vehicle through which to share info such as this.)

Wow! Thanks Doug & WSB. This is a great resource to have easy to access. What would I ever do without the WSB?!

South Seattle Vet will take donations over the phone once Jay sets up an account for Asia. You may want to take her in for a healthy pet exam…which is free if she is a new client. By doing so, she will be setup in their system and they will have her health records/history. Be sure to take everything in with you. Their phone number is 242-8338. Ask for Lisa, the Office Manager and Head Vet Tech.

Furry Faces Foundation assists animals, whose humans are financially restricted, with unexpected Vet Bills, healthy pet food and spay/neuter expenses. The Doney Clinic, who utilizes the Union Gospel Mission, does the same with basic health care like vaccines, toetail trims, etc. (we love them!) Furry Faces would like to start Asia’s donation fund with the following sponsorship challenge to all animal lovers: For every person that donates $20.00, we will match it, dollar for dollar, up to a total of $200.00.

Let’s help Asia and her humans! Thanks for being such a caring community!

Thank you WSB! ER Vet Care is a big issue. Where you go REALLY depends on What time of day or night it is! In the middle of the night Emerald City Emergency Clinic is Good (for a Vet ER) but pricy. VCA Animal Hospital has been Great to my dogs. And West Seattle Animal Hospital is alway Wonderful!

Mongo, at Dr. Kim (Greentree)’s recommendation, I took my cat with after-hours seizures to ACCESS Renton. I was very pleased with the staff and the facility.
