Update: 2 people extricated from car in 16th SW crash

2:26 PM: If you’ve seen the fire/police crews and/or heard the sirens – they’re headed for an “automobile rescue” call in the 7000 block of 16th SW (map). We’ll be there shortly.

2:34 PM: Adding a photo. Two people have been extricated by fire crews from a badly smashed-up car. We don’t know how serious their injuries are. There also is a pickup truck (toward the right side of the photo) that has hit a tree. Avoid this area, obviously, TFN.

2:42 PM: Scanner traffic indicates a report that one vehicle crossed the line before the collision. The victims from the car were taken to the hospital by private ambulance, which suggests the injuries may not be life-threatening. WSB contributor Katie Meyer says scanner traffic seems to confirm that; the people in the car were described as a male driver and female passenger, both adults, both on the way to Harborview Medical Center.

2:51 PM: Authorities on the scene tell WSB co-publisher Patrick Sand that the car with the two victims hit the pickup truck – which was already on the side of the street with damage from an earlier crash. This crash badly managed the car (additional photo here; note the top was cut off by fire crews) but did not cause much additional damage to the pickup. At this point, it does NOT look like the major investigation team is coming out, which indicates the road should be clear once wreckage is cleared up.

Quick correction… The neighborhood is actually riverview. Highland park starts further south.

I’ll just change it back to 16th SW. Thanks.

Riverview ? not Puget Ridge ?
    Hope the people are ok.

Perfect. 16th sw. The posted sign for pudget ridge on 16th is actually incorrect. I am pretty sure that pudget ridge is north and west of riverview. Riverview streches from sccc to sw Austin and 16th to riverview park. Though I admit I not sure if the boundary to the west is 15th or 16th.

People really need to slow down on 16th. I almost got hit in the middle of the cross walk here the other morning. The fact the occupants had to be extricated strongly suggests they were going well above the posted speed limit.

Fairly certain Puget Ridge starts at Myrtle and includes 16th, so it might be most correct.

I’m not sure I’d take corrections from a person who can’t spell (or capitalize) “Puget,” nor correctly abbreviate South Seattle Community College (hint: SCCC is on Capital Hill). Or, rather, I don’t think Lemers should be correcting others.
Also, “I admit I not sure”? Really?

    • WSB April 9, 2011 (8:24 pm)

Thanks, but we really try to minimize the commenter-to-commenter spelling/grammar snipes here. None of us is perfect. SCCC is in fact on Capitol Hill. As for Riverview vs. Highland Park vs. Puget Ridge, and other neighborhoods, since there are no official jurisdictions involved, there tend to be many interpretations. The city has a map that includes some neighborhoods, but not all ….

“I want to clarify that was one unofficial witness and his opinion.”

How is it relevant here, then? Let’s not spread rumors, and just wait to see what really happened.

  • Cclarue April 10, 2011 (2:52 pm)

Ummm, It is relevant because it is an observation from the scene. I wanted to clarify the unofficial part because it was just that UNofficial. But an observation none the less. I don’t claim to know their condition at the time of the accident, but clearly it wasn’t that they were giving 100% of their attention to driving the vehicle. The car crossed over the center line across a lane and hit a parked car.

Wow. I did not expect a debate about the neighborhood I live in. In fact I live across the street from where the accident took place and I would assert (and am sure that my neighbors would agree) we live in Riverview not Puget Ridge (Thanks for the correction Jodi) or Highland Park. I have no issue with either neighborhood, in fact I love them both. Just really want to call out that our little know neighborhood is in fact Riverview.

Any update on the status of the people who were injured? My husband and I live a few blocks away and were out for a walk when all this happened. We saw the passengers get pulled out, but don’t really know what has happened since. Thank you.

    • WSB April 11, 2011 (9:05 am)

Jenn, because of medical privacy laws, it’s usually close to impossible to get that kind of information beyond SFD being able to say “we transported two people.” If we knew their names, we could ask the hospital, but that information generally isn’t publicly available. The injuries were believed on Saturday NOT to be life-threatening. Most we can hope for at this point is that someone who knows the victims finds this story and has an update! – TR

Former coworker of mine posted this link on her Facebook page and wrote; we’re alive. So, there’s that.

    • WSB April 11, 2011 (10:06 pm)

Thanks. The injuries were not described as life-threatening, and our person at the scene said they were transported in private ambulances, which is usually further evidence of that.

Sorry, comment time is over.
