In West Seattle tonight, Seattle Lutheran High School hosted Rainier Christian. After the SLHS girls won, 37-28, the boys’ game went into overtime, but SLHS also came away with a win in that one, 73-70.

ADDED: Details and video, after the jump:

From WSB co-publisher Patrick Sand @ SLHS:

BOYS: It was a three-point kind of game. Rainier Christian seemed intent on carving out a win using the three-point shot. But it was a three-point buzzer-beater put up by the Saints’ Nick Savas that created a 61-61 tie that forced the game into an overtime that finally saw Seattle Lutheran pull off a 73-70 win over Rainier Christian at home on Saturday night.

The Mustangs pulled out to a very early lead, thanks to long-range shots from freshmen Sam Flynn and Spencer Green, who on the night put up a combined eight shots. In the second quarter the Saints gnawed away at the lead using an inside game that closed the gap to a one-point Mustang lead at halftime after a free throw from Nick Savas.

Throughout the second half, both teams were either tied or held a three-point advantage over the other. The Mustangs looked to have things locked up with only a minute or so to go, but the Saints controlled the rebound and pushed the game into overtime.

GIRLS: The Saints girls varsity played their single most physical game of thewhich saw them up by as much as 10 points in the first half as they went on to beat Rainier Christian 37-28. Turnovers and a poor shooting night kept the Mustangs on the Saints heels.

High scorer on the night was senior Abby French with 13 points.

As far as the district playoffs are concerned, It’s a mixed bag for both teams as to whether or not either will get a home game. Lutheran’s athletic director Bob Dowding says that this week’s game will determine the seeding order and until mid-week we won’t fully know the playoff schedule. But at this time it looks like the playoffs open with a road trip for the boys.
