Followup: 23rd SW garage fire accidental, ‘electrical malfunction’

The Seattle Fire Department has just announced the cause of this morning’s 6 am garage fire in the 5400 block of 23rd SW – “accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction.” Their update adds, “Damage estimate: $100,000.” Here’s our original breaking-news coverage with photos and video; the video above is shared by our friends at KING5, sent to them by viewer “edgallo“; here’s the last shot we took before leaving the scene this morning, looking into the gutted garage as the smoke cleared:

Clarification to a comment in yesterday’s report that the fire department didn’t arrive on scene for 10 minutes. The departments online response log shows all units being dispatched at 6:00 a.m. and first engine arriving on scene at 6:05 a.m., with the majority of other responding units arriving around 6:07 a.m.

Sorry, comment time is over.
