West Seattle Crime Watch: 2 beachfront car break-ins, & more

The three newest West Seattle Crime Watch reports include two car break-ins along Harbor Avenue, and a home break-in – read on for full details:

First:

Hello, I would just like to report that on Wednesday, May 12, at approximately 6pm, my girlfriend and her friend went out for a walk along Alki Beach. Their car was parked between Salty’s and that Fish & Chips Restaurant near the Water Taxi dock. My girlfriend’s friend left her purse in the car…either on the passenger side seat or on the passenger side floor mat. In any case, someone broke the window out of the passenger door, and stole the purse. Nothing else was taken. As the Seattle PD officer was writing his report, someone went speeding by in a sports car, and was subsequently stopped by the cop and given a ticket. Two lessons here: 1. Don’t leave your valuables in a visible location in your car. Even in an area where there are people present, thieves always find a way of getting what they want. 2. Don’t speed along Alki Beach!

Next, from mlv:

(Wednesday) night between 6-7 pm, my sisters car was broken into down at Alki beach. Harbor Ave. By the boat launch. At the angle parking. They used some jimmy rig to slip into the window. Stole her purse, and my other sisters blackberry. By the time we had gotten home to call the bank, they had already tried to use her card at the ATM. This was in Broad daylight, on the crowded busy parking. I want people to watch for people using things to open cars, even if they act like it is theirs. At least report the suspicious behavior. This is someone’s whole life in their purse sometimes. It goes far beyond just calling the bank and stopping your acct., or turning your phone off. Some people can suffer a multitude of mental anguish with these situations. So please, let’s all be diligent this summer with the suspicious activity at our beach.

From Douglas:

Want everyone to be aware there are kids who are very comfortable kicking in doors and stealing things in the Highland Park neighborhood. A high visibility green Specialized Stump Jumper with front shocks and a gel pad seat + a yellow Kona woman’s mountain bike were stolen (earlier this week). If you find my bikes I would like them back…

Thieves are also watching if you put your purse in your trunk, so either stash it BEFORE you arrive at your destination, or better yet take it with you. I only bring my license, insurance card, and cell phone if I’m only going to the beach or park for a walk.

I’m hoping these are young people who are learning not to leave their valuables out in view, because I’d hate to think they’re old enough to know better. As common sense goes, this is in the league of “don’t eat yellow snow.”

yes, please..no matter where you’re parked, if it has value to you, take it with you. They will break into your car for 2 bucks in change, even. So please be aware.

Sorry this is happening to you all.

Never leave anything in car that is not either locked to the frame (small key lock safes, like this one http://www.consolevault.com/indexInner.html?p=56 ) or that you are fine to have Joe Dirtbag walk off with. This box is for valuables (cash, cell, ID) as well as firearms, so don’t let the gun angle skew the purpose. Also good to take to hotel rooms for security reasons as well. There are several kinds out there with different lock types (combo and key and some biometrics).

Highland park 13th ave: 3 nights ago my neighbor heard glass breaking in front of his home, he went to investigate & found 2 Hispanic males busting his windshield of his truck. He followed them as he called 911. The dispatcher told him not to pursue the men but then asked for their license plate. So after all that my neighbor successfully assisted in their arrest at the Arco on delridge. Good job Micheal for your bravery!

Sorry, comment time is over.
