West Seattle business news: Wax Bar opens in Triangle tomorrow

Tonight, another one of the new West Seattle businesses we’ve been tracking is just hours from opening … The Wax Bar opens tomorrow morning at 37th/Fauntleroy, between the shoe repair and brake-service stores. Founder Karen says they’re planning to open the doors at 9 am. We first confirmed in December that The Wax Bar – which is expanding from Ballard – was coming to West Seattle. We got the original heads-up when they applied for a liquor license – which, as they told us, is needed because their twist is that they serve beer: Waxing, skin care, and beer. They’re online at thewaxbarseattle.com and opening tomorrow morning at 4450 37th SW (map).

That is the best idea!!! Not sure I’m going to be a client – but I love the idea!!!

Please educate yourself about the risks of waxing. In November I contracted a serious, life threatening staph infection that spread through my body. I never could have imgained the pain, hospitalization and the tens of thousands I would have to pay because of a wax job.

The conditions of the popular waxing place I went (in Kirkland) to were NOT SANITARTY. It was my first time waxing my bikini area and I was so nervous when I did not see the surfaces sanitized, re-dipping of wax and that the waxer was not wearing gloves among other unsterile things.

I don’t want to take away any business from this new place, it sounds great, but do ask questions and demand sanitary conditions.

Stronger alcohol and a correction on their homepage would get me in. ‘Seattle’ ought be in the possessive, not the plural. I just don’t know why business typos bother me so much.

Hmmm…Brakes, Boots, Beers, and a Brazilian. It’s rare that I find a need for those services, though perhaps I don’t get out enough.

    burrrrrrrrrp. rrrrrrrrrrrip.

So many questions. Beer and waxing? Do I wax before beer or beer after wax? Do I have a bikini area? Is it worth waxing? Is it waning? Will it stop waning if I wax? How many wax will it take before it wanes?
These are not simple questions and really ask of us the most fundamental of moral questions: are those who are hairy as human as the rest of us?
I welcome this day and truly hope that those profound words from the Dog Faced Man that we all know so well, ‘The Ringling Brothers Oracle’ shall ever ring true, “Judge not a man by the quantity of his hair, but by quality of his waxing. Only then shall we know peace.”
Amen and welcome, brother. May you wax long and well.

    And wine?

  • paige March 16, 2010 (11:13 pm)

Looked on the site and it looks like beer only, which i strongly dislike. If there was wine I would be more excited! Maybe they’ll expand their options.

@Mitch, I see you know how to wax…philosophical. Myself, I prefer to wax poetic.

Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother 40 wax When she saw what she had done she gave her father 41

And apparently then had a beer.

I’ve had a shot before waxing and it really did help reduce the pain. Would welcome a beer.

“wax on, wax off, Dalniel Son”

“Do not weep; do not wax indignant. Understand”

I recently had my eyebrows threaded at Southcenter Mall and it was wonderful! Way less painful then waxing and no skin reaction. I would def go to new place in WS for a beer and threading. Does anyone know a place in WS that offers threading? Let me know!
    Happy St Patty’s Day!

How nice that everyone is welcoming to a new business in this economy.

Best of luck on your opening! Have heard a few folks mention how excited they were to have you in the hood!

  • Stacey March 17, 2010 (11:00 am)

What is threading? It sounds scary! Any word if the Wax Bar is offering Grand Opening Specials?

    • WSB March 17, 2010 (11:25 am)

we’re stopping by shortly so we’ll ask them.

  • cjboffoli March 17, 2010 (12:54 pm)

Threading is a technique that uses a twisted loop of thread to catch and pluck out hairs. Here’s a YouTube video with a woman demonstrating how it’s done: http://bit.ly/c0gO6

WOW, waxing, beer and in between shoe repair and brakes,,,,,sounds like a classy place?!
Yes, as other post said, be careful of how the place is run and how they clean, no double dipping in the wax. MRSA is a very bad bug to get. Also, amazing that so many spas manage to stay afloat in this economy.

I’m no huge judge of style but it’s a rather nice interior – look for a photo in the next story we’re putting up – TR

  • B@TT March 17, 2010 (8:20 pm)

Is it me or is something wrong with the Stop Sign in the photo?

  • miws March 17, 2010 (9:27 pm)

    B@TT, it’s a reflection in a window. ;)

Wow, what a nice place! Took a look this morning and loved it, they also do facials and lots of great opening specials.

  • traceysea March 20, 2010 (4:35 pm)

I decided to give this place a shot after reading reviews about their other location in ballard. It’s really chic and clean inside! You would never know that you are right next door to a brake shop! They don’t have beer yet, they are waiting for their license to come in the mail, but between that and sports illustrated, it seems like a great place for guys to come too! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. They also gave me a 50% off coupon. I’m sure I’ll be back!

Lynaia has been waxing my brows for years and does a great job! She’s very professional and easy going. I’m totally looking forward to a pre-wax beer next time I see her!

Sorry, comment time is over.
