West Seattle Crime Watch: Vandalism, car-prowl reports

3 Crime Watch reports to share tonight – 2 cases of vandalism at local homes – one that happened earlier tonight – plus a car prowl. First, from FH in the 3400 block of 45th SW [map]:

I wanted to report that our front door window pane was smashed at a little before 6:00 pm tonight. A neighbor walking by heard a crash and then saw a kid run from our front yard across 45th Ave SW to Madison Middle School. He called the police who came, reported in the incident and provided a case number. … The neighbor said he also heard a crash of glass from the corner of Spokane and 45th Ave SW.

A North Admiral resident reports:

Writing to report that our house on 46th Ave and College [map] has been vandalized twice in the last week. December 25th and December 31st after dark our house was egged and mail removed from a locked mailbox and strewn across the porch. The vandals had to climb very steep stairs and the house is not surrounded by trees or bushes, it is out in the open. Report filed with the police department and they will be patrolling more frequently in the next weeks. Hope neighbors will keep a look out and report suspicious people, especially after dark. The postman observed that other houses were not egged so this feels like a repeat-targeting of our house. Wondering if there have been other reports such as this.

And from Annamarie in the 6900 block of 25th SW [map], who reports several cars were prowled in her neighborhood Wednesday night; she discovered she was among the victims after a neighbor’s phone call:

We both had not locked our doors and they did not break anything. I am missing CD’s, tools, etc. My car is parked right outside my bedroom window with security lights and all…but I did not hear them. I just want to get out a warning. I normally lock my car doors but must have not remembered …

Sometime after 11:00 PM on 1/1/10 and the morning of 1/2/10 someone tossed a concrete cinder block through my driver’s side window of my locked SUV and stole my Garmin Nuvi 300/350 GPS device that was on its mount in the window. Normally I remove the device but I forgot to do so last night. This happened in the 2700 block of SW Dakota Street in West Seattle. Police were notified.

We live in the Admiral area on 46th street. In mid November our Truck got broken into. Our fault we left the doors unlock. The police say that it’s a bunch of teens that go around and pull on car doors to see if they are unlocked. Two weeks later I awoke to find my car’s alarm going off. No damage that time but we are still fighting with the insurance from the first time.

I live at the corner of 35th Ave SW & SW Morgan St.Sometime between the hours of 2am & 11am my car was stolen from under the carport of my apartment bldg. It is a 1998 RED Dodge Neon Sport. It has a fin on the trunk and it has IDAHO License plates 1G55739. On the back bumper is has two Scotland stickers.. One is a St. Andrews Cross the other is an Oval that has two SMALL Scottish flags, the cross and the Lion and the letters SCO in the middle. It also had/has a Jolly Roger License plate in the back window. If you happen to see the car parked on your street, a parking lot, etc PLEASE CALL 911 & let them know you spotted it.They will call me.I filed a Police report with the SPD it’s on their “Hot List”.They are looking,I’m looking..figured it couldn’t hurt to ask for my fellow West Seattle Neighbors to keep their eyes open for it as well. Thank you in advance.

At 50th and Dawson, our van was broken into in our driveway. This happened in the middle of the night on Jan 4th. They stole our portable DVD player (with a Mickey Mouse DVD in it) as well as a case logic with lots of kids music in it. Sheesh, who does this?

We live on 31st ave SW between Elmgrove and Thistle. My car was prowled last night but it doesn’t appear that anything was taken. Does anyone know what a car prowler might be looking for when rummaging through a glove box? (Registration is still there) Second, is this an incident that we should report to the police?

Just wanted to add a comment about my neighborhood – 36th & Olga. Cars & garages that are left unlocked constantly have personal items stolen (things like sunglasses, change, clothing, tools). We almost always remember to lock our cars, but on two occasions items have been stolen when we carelessly left a door unlocked.

These thieves must be on the constant prowl, despite car alarms and motion lights.

Sorry, comment time is over.
