3 quick notes: Radio drill tonight; veg plants tomorrow; move it!

RADIO DRILL TONIGHT: Just a note that the West Seattle Community Hubs (explained here – a GREAT website) are testing a radio system that neighborhood reps will use in case of catastrophe – in case for example you are a radio aficionado, or pass someone involved in the drill, and overhear something that sounds alarming, 5:30-7 pm tonight, don’t worry, it’s only a drill.

PLANT SALE TOMORROW: If you are thinking about fall veggie gardening, Community Harvest of Southwest Seattle wants to see you at St. James Place (9421 18th SW) noon-3 pm tomorrow for its fall veggie-start sale. And bring your extra produce for donation to food banks!!!

AMERICA ON THE MOVE WEEK: West Seattle /Fauntleroy YMCA (WSB sponsor) has a week of special events planned – the main goal, consume 100 calories less and walk 2,000 steps more every day. Here’s the full list of special events – first ones are a family boot camp and fun walk tomorrow on Alki.

So there’s a fall veggie start sale on Saturday and then an edible harvest fair on Sunday (ediblewestseattle.org)? And they’re two totally separate events? Weird.

No, apparently the Sunday event is NOT happening. I am quadrupleconfirming with Community Harvest but this is their big push this weekend, the veggie start sale.

Somewhat related to the radio drill, it was yeaterday, I think, that the Emergency Alert System had and earthquake drill over the air on the TV stations. I’ve actually participated in the past, crawling under my desk, at the appropriate time, (as if that wobbly old desk is gonna protect me during the real thing!)

Anyway, the idea crossed my mind, that a fun thing to do during the drill, would be to rush over to the window, and exclaim, “OMG, look at those telephone polls swaying! And the street buckling!” Alas, being alone, there wouldn’t have been much of a point in doing so. :D

Yeah, I’m weird. ;) And like a former coworker used to add to that statement, when someone would ask him how he’s doing, “…..but I’m good at it!” :P
