West Seattle weather: Now it’s an “excessive heat warning”

The weather alert ratcheted up early this morning to an “excessive heat warning,” in effect until 6 pm Thursday. That’s also the end time for the “air stagnation advisory” that officially kicks in at noon. Get details on both alerts from the National Weather Service – which also has the latest forecast, here. Keep your pets safe (advice here) and watch out for yourself, your family and neighbors too (more advice).

If you like thrillers, take a gander at Wednesday’s forecast from the UW (http://probcast.com/) and prepare to gasp!

This might be the best week ever to go see Harry Potter at the theater! With Junior Mints of course.

Hey WSB, does Seattle or any other city/transit area offer “spare the air” free transit days like the Bay Area?

I’ll be looking to the blog for a list of places with air conditioning in West Seattle!

thanks for the keeping pets cool link. i never think that pavement gets hot enough to burn paws here in seattle but in the next few days, it will. a good reminder to choose where i walk the pups carefully and only down shady streets. i definitely plan to hose my dogs down in the afternoon-that always helps!

Are there going to be official ‘cooling centers’ open?

  • WSG July 27, 2009 (10:15 am)

    – KING 5 had the “cooling centers” on this AM check out their website

    – Also remember to water the yard/plants very EARLY or LATE in the day. Watering during the hottest part of the day is a waste of time, water and money.

I’m putting water out (in an upside down garbage can lid) in our backyard for the birds and any other critter that is thirsty.

    WSG,

And to add.. If your grass is ALREADY BROWN, don’t bother watering it now – just wait until the Fall.

High fire risk…smoking at bus stops.
Smokers: when seeing your anticipated bus arriving, please do not drop your cigarette butt onto the dry grass parking strip, and create an extreme fire potential.
Just a reminder and a request.

If you have lots of concrete water it down after sunset. The concrete holds tons of heat and the water helps cools it off.

That’s why “warming” is really an increase in the nighttime highs, not the daytime highs. Cities, etc.

Green grass helps keep your home cool, too.
