I just got word that the Sounder to Tacoma from the Seahawks game is stuck and not going back – and the passengers are out so police had to respond.

  • gatewoodgirl December 21, 2008 (5:52 pm)

****I meant passengers are pissed and raucous — so SPD had to respond understandably!

  • WSB December 21, 2008 (6:07 pm)

thanks – I sent that out by Twitter too. Will add Sound Transit/Sounder links here – ST had some web trouble a couple days ago when this all revved up, hope they’ve taken care of it.

Ok mapping Alice..Left the U district at 4:30, compact snow and ice on I5 took the west seattle bridge, again compact snow and ice, up to fauntleroy and raymond. Fauntleroy is pretty deep with snow. Turned around (picked up the partner) and north on Fauntleroy, right on Alaska, right on 35th all the way down to Barton, took a left to 26th and down to 109th to our house. Roads are snow covered, and have ruts from the cars. We have a front wheel drive 9 year old protege that did just fine. Mind you new tires were put on, on the day after thanksgiving (sears had a kick butt sale). We are very seasoned drivers in this and I can tell when someone is not, i.e. slowing way down on a slight hill, big no no…keep up your speed! I would really say not to get out there unless you absolutely have to.

Oh, and I forgot, Mags, ask your daughter to ask her dr. for a note, the simple stress of driving in this couldn’t be healthy for a pregnancy!

Not in WS but just heard power is out on N end of Vashon.

So, metro released a statement that they will only be running half of the buses, but the page listing the canceled routes doesn’t seem to updated. I really hope they update their site before tomorrow morning.

Just got back from Westwood Village, Barnes & Noble is closing at 7 PM. QFC is open and pretty stocked. They are almost completely out of eggs.

  • WSB December 21, 2008 (6:56 pm)

thanks – will update with barnes/noble. their community relations person Robin was super-cool earlier today when I called and asked if she could tell us if Santa was at Westwood Village – she walked over to check. Reminder to all – this is a post listing who’s open/closed and fixed links .. we’ll be starting the evening “discuss road conditions etc.” thread in a couple minutes.

Pagliacci is open but you have to pick up — they are not delivering (at least not down to 47th & Alaska).

But the hubby is driving up for his pizza fix now – yeah for Pagliacci’s.

  • p December 21, 2008 (7:40 pm)

Pizza time on 35th closed at 5, forgot to mention that earlier!

One thing I totally spaced on, if you know your neighbor is elderly, handicapped, etc, please check on them! I have been in constant contact with my neighbors to make sure that they are ok. If you are going to go out for something, ask people around you if they need something, a ride, etc. Sometimes just getting out of the house helps. And hey, if you are baking, take a plate over and interduce yourself if you don’t know your neighbor. Its times like these that we can take a moment to meet our neighbors and hopefully make some new found friends! We are baking tonight and I am delivering tomorrow!

Lights are back on in my part of Port Orchard after being out for about an hour this afternoon. No wind, so it must have been a tree limb or something else that took out the power. Garbage pickup for us tomorrow is looking like it won’t happen.

    ok, I cannot spell……..

I saw that Amtrak’s trains are cancelled – does anyone know about the status of the buses leaving from King St. Station and heading to Eastern WA tomorrow morning? I tried calling Amtrak (since that is who I booked my bus ticket through on their website), and the wait time for a service agent was 17 minutes. Tried calling King St. Station, which is supposed to be open until 10:30, and got no answer and their message box is full (understandably).

I just want to make sure I still need to be at the station tomorrow morning! Any suggestions for where else to look?

  • WSB December 23, 2008 (10:50 am)

Every year I say we’re going to make a list and every year I can’t find time … if everybody makes one phone call (there are 100 plus restaurants in WS) and posts the results here, I’ll add it to the open/closed list (I am working on Christmas coffeehouses and Christmas Eve services right now, both are WSB traditions) … TR

jm, I’ve been regularly getting mail here on California Av in the Morgan Junction area since the snow first hit.

    .

However, reading through the posts on the threads here on the Blog that relate to ongoing conditions, etc, apparently many have not gotten their mail, some for several days in a row.

    .

Also, a poster has posted on at least a couple of those threads, that as of a couple days or so ago, USPS has directed all Carriers to be back to their base Post Office by 4:30 pm, due to so many of them falling and getting into accidents and such.

    .

    Mike

Sorry, comment time is over.
