Reader report: Alki-area cell-calling woes

“D” wanted to pass along an alert to fellow T-Mobile cell users – she says her phone’s not working in the Alki area, except for text messages (they live near 62nd/Alki). She says the customer-service department reported “network problems in (the) area” are being worked on.

Is anybody else fed up with the missing t-mobile coverage on 35th and Hudson?
Whenever I drive by there (on the bus, mostly), my call is dropped. You’d think that that is a busy enough area to provide some coverage.

The same thing happens at 37th and Admiral. I don’t understand it because there is a cell phone tower just down the street.

I am sick of calls dropping on the W. Seattle bridge. It started a few months ago and now I have to wait until I am over the ‘highrise’ before I can make a call.

Seeing a cell phone site does not specify WHO’S it is! My having a history in cell phone carriers I’m a better guesser at who’s site belongs to whom, and what is actually a cell site – the tower at the water towers off 35th is NOT a ‘cell site’, it just uses the same type of tower as the cell site guys use, its actually a city of Seattle communications site.

Remember, there are Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, Nextel and Qwest all doing business in this market providing cellular airtime.

Here is a tool that’ll help you try to figure out who is what, however not all towers or cell sites are listed…
