West Seattle High School burglary update: More arrests

Five people now have been arrested for the break-in early yesterday at West Seattle HS (original WSB report here, followed by a comment explaining that “the burglars stole items from our special-education students”). Sgt. Jeff Durden at the Southwest Precinct just provided these details: “During the initial incident, one arrest was made of an adult West Seattle High school student. He brought the four other other West Seattle High students into the SW Precinct around 2 pm yesterday. All of the student/suspects are cooperating with both detectives and the school. All property is in the process of being returned.”

an “adult” WSHS student…exactly how adult? 18? 23? sorry, am being sarcastic here. Perhaps if he had gotten an education instead of planning a burglary, he wouldn’t be an “adult” still in WSHS…

I’m glad that the property will be returned…hope it’s not damaged..

Jan, there are many 18 year old seniors. The school system requires that, honestly. To think that all 18 year olds in school don’t value education is just plain wrong, and rather offensive to us with kids who will graduate as 18 year olds.

Granted, *this* 18 year old is a problem, but he’s also the exception of WSHS students.

Eric..not to worry..I was 18 when I graduated, as was my daughter (WSHS class of ’99). I was talking about this particular “adult” senior, not generalizing. I understand that there are many who graduate after they turn 18. This particular guy didn’t embrace his education very well, IMO…that’s all I was trying to say :) I think I would hesitate to call him “adult”….

I’m pretty sure they were just trying to distinguish between how the suspect would be prosecuted … adult court vs. juvenile court.

Update … We were told by local police tonight the “adult” suspect is 20. And a senior.

Sorry, comment time is over.
