The mayor’s office just added another event to tonight’s busy list: Groups from around the city are accepting awards for “Small and Simple” matching-funds grants tonight – and two of those grants are going to West Seattle projects – read on:
From the news release – these are the excerpts about the West Seattle winners, what they’re getting and what they’ll do with the money:
Project: Southwest Fitness Room Design
Organization: Southwest Community Center Advisory Council
NMF Award: $14,472
Match: $8,251
Project Description: The Southwest Community Center Advisory Council will lead a community design process to create a new fitness room in the current center. The design will enhance the fitness and well-being of all generations, and will be accessible to users with limited resources.Project: Belvidere Avenue SW Disaster Supply Project
Organization: Block Watch Census tract 98 and SNAP Program Participants

Match: $1,000
Project Description: Neighbors on the 3400 block of Belvidere Avenue SW are organizing around emergency preparedness. They will purchase a weatherproof container, stock it with emergency equipment, and will attend ‘Seattle Neighborhoods Actively Prepare’ training courses in disaster response.
The awards event is 6 pm tonight at the Northwest African American Museum.
