West Seattle Crime Watch: Burglary bustup; watchful neighbors

Two West Seattle Crime Watch notes tonight: First, via Twitter, Marty reported a burglary attempt today at his home near 35th/Othello (map) – we don’t have the full narrative but he did say police caught the suspects. Meantime, Cathy at 45th/Stevens (map) reports a car break-in, and something heartening she heard when she reported it to police:

Just a reminder to lock your doors and keep valuables out of the car. When I called to report it the dispatcher asked what kind of car. He said someone had already called in suspicious behavior on my block regarding my car. I was glad that I live in a community where people look out for others.

Three young men were involved in the attempted burglary — apparently they thought attempting to kick in a heavy-duty triple-paned basement laundry room window was an excellent idea at 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon when the homeowners (and our dogs) were home. Dumbest. Criminals. EVER.
    .
Nothing was taken, and a neighbor also got a good look at them. SPD caught all three about a half hour later a few blocks away at either at West Seattle Elementary or the High Point Playfield.
    .
We have nothing but good things to say about SPD response time… Plenty of bad things to say about the perpetrators as we spent the day boarding up the window and picking glass shards out of the laundry.

I live on 35th & Webster and my Accord was broken into last night. They stole my digital camera that I foolishly forgot in the door pocket. Also took cd’s and a phone charger. Filed a report but not much else they can do I guess.

Regarding the attempted burglary- I heard through a witness they were very young indeed but smart enough to remove their outer clothes in hopes of not getting identified.

Maybe the same three that broke into our house on 12/10 in the same neighborhood. Police have been great.

A similar burglary took place near 34th and Willow. Our back door glass was broken and three young teens burglarized/ransacked our home on Dec 10th. They were successful, as none of our neighbors were home at the time.
    .
They stole our laptop, red ipod, 2 manual cameras that were in my family since the 1950s, and items handed down to me from my deceased family – irreplaceable memories that have no street value. We know all of our neighbors and have always maintained a look-out for eachother.
    .
We are very saddened by the change in our community and this extensive increase of burglaries, seemingly to be by similar suspects.

Sorry, comment time is over.
