BIZNOTE: Westwood Village QFC ‘grand reopening’ Wednesday

Got word today from QFC that it’s planning an event Wednesday morning to celebrate the completion of its $2.8 million Westwood Village remodeling project. At 8 am, they will hand out gift bags to the first 200 customers, with “a coupon for a ‘free breakfast’ (a dozen eggs, package of bacon, muffins, and carton of orange juice) as well as a QFC gift card. The gift cards will be for $5, with one for $300 mixed in.” The celebration also will feature free cake and coffee, with a ribboncutting at 8:30 am.

It is true that the store is lovely but they have stopped carrying many items for which I go there specifically.  No Grand Central bread, very limited soups.  Bah humbug.

Wait… that remodel job cost 2.8 million?!! I just told my wife yesterday that when with the remodeling there, the lighting is terrible, it looks dingy

That’s what a QFC spokesperson said in the media-advisory e-mail to us, yes.

Is it just me or has the remodel been going on for a couple of years? For example, the foor has been just exposed concrete subfloor for what seems like a couple of years.

Seems as they were converting aisles, they put the slower selling items, cleaning supplies, pet food, etc, near self check. Maybe to calm the traffic for self check area. Separating bagged bread to produce side, on opposite side of bakery, seems kind of odd. The busy bread aisle now near busy produce section.

Haven’t been to that QFC in ages….. reminds me of the old Albertsons in White Center now. I remember when it opened and it was such a great store. Meh…….

Yes looks nice but agree with Kayla that the Kroger ownership has drastically reduced the “choice” of items we like.

The fish department is always the same five fish – this is a fishing terminal/ seaport city, not Kansas. You can tell that it’s the “home office” as the selection is identical at different QFC’s I frequent. Also mourn the loss of the great wine steward there – now just the usual …

Still better than the old Alberstons though – that was really depressing, this is just corporate.

Inclined to agree…I’ve been shopping there for 18 years but now when I go in there are things they don’t stock anymore or don’t have much of. The produce has not been looking so great lately, either.

Sorry, comment time is over.
