West Seattle restaurants: Meander’s now ‘all-breakfast’ & 7 days

Another update from the tiny café that’s been a huge hit with West Seattleites – WSB contributor Keri DeTore has an update on Meander’s, north of Morgan Junction (6032 California SW):

If you haven’t been to Meander’s in a while, it may be time to go back — both to see chef Miranda Krone’s new Northwest-themed tattoo, and to check out the new menu! Meander’s is going all-breakfast, all the time, dropping all lunch items (except the popular Monte Cristo) from the menu and adding a few new breakfast items. “Chicken-fried steak will be available on a regular basis” says Miranda, as is a new creation, “Afton’s Hot Mess.” Made with chorizo, spinach, black beans, grits and poached eggs, one diner proclaimed it, “Delicious! So good it’s ridiculous!” Meander’s has even better news for regulars—the café will now be open seven days a week: 8 am-3 pm Monday through Saturday and 9 am to 3 pm Sundays. Miranda will also maintain the late-night hours from 10 pm to 4 am on Friday and Saturday, but will no longer be open late on Thursday.

We love this place! Is Miranda still planning to expand into the space next door (to the south)?

I went by this last Saturday night at 2am for late night food, and they weren’t open. Are they only open some Fridays and Saturdays for late night?

New menu? Did the prices change? Is she accepting plastic yet or still cash only?

It’s great that they are doing well and the food sounds great — but would it kill them to take down the Jade West sign?

Yeah, I have tried on three seperate occasions to frequent this business and have failed.

Tried on a Thursday and Friday nights, then another Saturday morning. Closed both nights (despite hours being listed on their Facebook page) and too busy that Saturday morning to get a seat.

You know, most restuarants, I would be walking away by now, but I think this place is just having growing pains- So I am more determined than ever to eat there. :D

Keep those night hours rolling, make them reliable and I will pull in some business! Get that additional space open, too! Good luck to Meanders, can’t wait to finally try it.

Everything I have tried has been delicious. Miranda is an egg-poaching magician and never in my life have I fantasized so much about hash browns! The food, the personality and the love make it the most unique breakfast in town, IMHO.

@A – I believe it is still cash only.

I eat there on a weekly basis and it’s still not enough. I’ve loved getting know Miranda and her staff. THANK GOD somebody around here is using high quality ingredients resulting in some of the best food I have ever had. I will greatly the cheese burger and the BLT but I am excited to check out the new items. PS: I kinda like the Jade West sign.

    Hi, folks!
Yup…late night has been a little spotty. Both of the staff I hired to work that shift had prior commitments for the dates that we’ve been closed, but are now both ready-set-go for the Friday & Saturday run. We have, indeed, had some growing pains, but I think things are smoothing out. We’re still working on those permits for expansion, but older buildings always hold many surprises. *grin*
As of right now, no plans to start accepting plastic, but there’re a few ATM’s within a couple blocks of us. Also, no plans to take down the Jade West sign…I kinda like it, and the nod to Wah. We do have plans to get our own sign up, but our sign painter needs a block of a few solid days of good weather for the paint to dry proper-like.
The new menu includes new items, and a few of the prices did change, but nothing more than a quarter here or there (our coffee prices and other supplies have gone up in the past six months, so just keeping pace).
Ed has been a wonderful addition to the kitchen, and, along with Chase, Afton & Lorraine, I think we have a great crew. And you guys are seriously the best…I <3 making your breakfasts!

is there a menu online anywhere?

  • celeste17 June 28, 2011 (5:16 pm)

EE Sometimes she has to close on a weekend night because she has no help. Her weekend night crew have other jobs and sometimes those jobs will create a mess with the schedule. Always better to call first.

As for her expanding, yes she is going to expand. The plans have been submitted and I think approved. So it should happen soon.

I am in about once a week and love to sit at the counter and talk with her and Afton. I love the Chloe scramble.

This place is soooo good. Stopped by there a few weeks ago with the misses. She had the french toast and I had the corned beef hash. Both so delicious! and the staff so friendly and helpful. Ed is awesome. Worked with him at the old Flying Fish space some years back. Looking forward to them expanding there space and going there often.

  • johnnyblegs June 28, 2011 (7:06 pm)

Can they PLEASE get some signage??! Still says Jade West and it took up a while to find it because of the lack of sign. Worth it though!

  • kate June 28, 2011 (9:41 pm)

You people and your need for signs! How about you all open up your own restaurants and then you can put up as many signs as you want. She already said she’s leaving it up. Sheesh! Leave the girl alone and let her cook!

  • johnnyblegs June 28, 2011 (10:22 pm)

    Just one will do (:

  • BookGal June 28, 2011 (11:41 pm)

Actually, I love that old funky Jade West sign. And just as I thought, it is a nod to our West Seattle history and to Mr. Wah Wong (and his family).

Instead of hating that old sign – think of it as our (West Seattle) little secret place… You either live in West Seattle or just have to know where it is.

This is Our (West Seattle) Neighborhood breakfast joint – which happens to serve delicious home-cooked meals. It is a wonderful throw-back to decades past: when people were much more considerate, had manners, and there was a real sense of community. People were more engaged with their surroundings and with one another.

If there is a line… one waits PATIENTLY (outside)… There’s no need for a silly “wait list”… its the honor system.

  • Ray West June 29, 2011 (5:59 am)

I love Meanders, and it’s just great having a breakfast place within walking distance of my house. I’ll be glad when they expand their space so there’s less of a wait outside.

Sorry, comment time is over.
