West Seattle Crime Watch: Two suspicion-stirring sightings

First – the case of the electronics-laden shopping cart; second, the case of the “cleaning lady” who wasn’t – read on:

From Misty:

I live on the 5000 block of 42nd Ave SW [map]. When I got home from work yesterday, I found a shopping cart filled with used electronics tucked up in our carport, hidden from sight from the alley. It wasn’t there when I left yesterday. My landlord’s little travel trailer’s door had been opened as well. We notified the police and they came to pick up the electronics. I’m figuring the electronics must belong to someone in my area as the person had to have been walking through the alley with the shopping card in broad daylight. Therefore, if any of my neighbors are missing theirs, I’d suggest they contact the West Seattle PD.

And from “V“:

We live in the 8800 block of 38th Ave SW [map] and during the day (Friday) our neighbor saw a woman walking around our next-door neighbor’s house. When he asked her what she was doing she told him that she was our cleaning lady and was looking for the key to our house. She also said her car (supposedly a black Mercedes) was out front and she had ID in it. When they went to the front of the house there was no car. Our neighbor’s little grandchildren were calling to him from across the street so he had to run over to them and when he turned around the woman was gone. Just wanted to let people know. The weird thing is is that the woman knew how many kids we have and what gender they are. The sad thing is we don’t have a cleaning lady.

which means anyone with a “hidden” key outside should rethink that hidden key, meaning don’t hide a key outside. They are smarter than you think they are and will find the key.

Interesting….Last Wednesday a dude was snooping around on our property, he came through the alley and up the stairs my neighbor and I stopped the guy and ask what hell we was doing in our property he said he was just passing through and that does all the time. we let him go. Later found his bicycle in-front of the garage. He was up to something. Early that day we found a bag full of wires and light fixtures hidden in our bushes.
It was a young white dude maybe mid 20’s.

You’ve got a great neighbor, “V”! There’s a lesson for us all in his alertness

V’s story is scary to me b/c I’m just below them in Fauntlee Hills & I know there have been rumors of women casing houses, or even being the possible culprit/s for small (bathroom or garage) window break-ins. Note to self: leave NO windows open when not at home, a small-ish woman or petite man CAN fit through them. Will be keeping my eyes peeled even more than usual. Am glad most of my neighbors are home throughout the day & evening!

when my house was prowled last fall, the one glimpse I got of possible perp was a caucasian woman, close to six feet, 40+ years old who was pretending to look for house number (in an alley way?) – which did not exist, late at night.

Criminals and creeps come in all ages, shapes, sizes and colors. Truly, assume nothing these days.

We live near 32nd Ave. SW and Webster and woke to our dog growling and barking at our downstairs window at 3:30 a.m. We found two people slinking around our window (a man and a woman). When we told them to get off our property they said they were “just using our water”. They had turned on our hose at that point and said their car was overheating. They were somewhat brazen coming into our gated, fenced yard. I keep wondering if they were really going to break in and got caught.

BA, did you call the police?
At 3:30am I’d be calling the police before asking what they are up to.

Sorry, comment time is over.
