JenVMemberCad- definitely go to Seattle Yarn – they are very helpful. If you want to purchase your own needles, they will have you pick out your yarn first. I tend to like the larger needles for now, they are easier to handle with the bulky yarn I like. I really like the baby alpaca – it’s a little pricey, but so soft and cozy.

JanSParticipantJenV, can I commission you to make me a bright red baby alpaca 6 or 7 foot long scarf? :)
September 18, 2008 at 11:27 pm #638840
JenVMemberhmmm. I could possibly be persuaded to do that…as soon as I learn how to make something that long!

TraciMemberLast night was so much fun! I can’t wait until we meet again next Wed… Hopefully we’ll have to add on another table :)
September 19, 2008 at 3:51 am #638842
ellenaterMemberTraci, I can’t stop thinking about that scarf pattern and your add on needles…

JenVMemberBUMP – are we on for this week?
September 22, 2008 at 5:15 pm #638844
inactiveMemberJenV and all
I am NOT going to make it this week. I’ve discovered a more realistic attendance for me might be every other Wednesday. But, I will be there next week. For sure. It’s a good group and I’m so pleased to be learning how to knit again!
September 22, 2008 at 5:31 pm #638845
JenVMemberevery other Wednesday would also work!
September 22, 2008 at 9:17 pm #638846
ellenaterMemberI’m in every week. I have a ton of projects that I want to do and need the group for structure. Hope others can make it as well!
westseattledood, you need to get your priorities straight ;)
I also want to know what people think about switchign to Thursdays? I have someone that I need to do on Weds. but if others can’t or don’t want to switch I’ll figure it out.
So Wed. at Velvet at 7pm! Hope to see you all there!
September 23, 2008 at 12:39 am #638847
TraciMemberEllenator gator, I’m ALMOST done with the hat, hope to wear it to the group in a couple days!
I can do Thursdays just as easily as Wed… We can talk about it when we meet up.
September 23, 2008 at 12:54 am #638848
ellenaterMemberTraci, me too! I made that hat with the blue. Wear it for sure (even if your needles are still attached!
cheers.

JenVMemberKristie and I will be there at 7. I finished my purple and green scarf and am on to red this week.
September 23, 2008 at 1:05 am #638850
TraciMemberJenV, I haven’t thought of your nickname yet but it will have something to do with you learning how to knit at superhuman speed.
September 23, 2008 at 1:14 am #638851
JenVMember:P…needles of fury!
September 23, 2008 at 4:37 am #638852
ariettaParticipantWow, I just saw this post and would love to join you all! I hope there’s room for another? :)
I haven’t read every post here, but in skimming through, it seemed that some might’ve been hoping for Thursdays. There is a S&B group that meets Thursdays at the Barnes & Noble at Westwood Village. I think it starts at 7? Maybe someone can correct me if I’m wrong.
September 23, 2008 at 4:48 am #638853
JenVMemberarietta – please join us Wednesday at 7, Uptown Coffee in the junction! We’re thinking of moving to Thursdays…but come see us Wednesday!
September 23, 2008 at 4:50 am #638854
JeraldParticipantHow about alternating Wed. & Thurs. each week. Or would that be too confusing.
September 23, 2008 at 5:12 am #638855
ariettaParticipantThanks, JenV! I’ll be there this week, maybe a little late, tho. I’ll be leaving downtown around 7 (just before if I’m lucky).
Jerald and others, I’m fine with either Wed. or Thurs. (or alternating), and I have to say that Uptown is way more convenient for me than B&N in Westwood. Thanks guys, see you Wed.!
September 23, 2008 at 2:36 pm #638856
ellenaterMemberLooking forward to meeting you and your knitting Arietta!
I like Jerald’s idea of alternating if that’s good with everyone else. I would be just sick if I couldn’t ever come! We’ll take a poll at the group!
and Arietta, Uptown is great for our purposes. There are large tables, comfy chairs, good lighting, friendly baristas…no cupcakes but good cookies. :) Bonnie mentioned that there was and S&B at B&N on Wed. nights. Maybe there are two! Seems like there is a need for more!
September 23, 2008 at 3:26 pm #638857
JenVMembersee, you all have the problem with cupcakes – but if I were knitting at a book store you’d never see me b/c I’d be too busy buying books…
September 23, 2008 at 4:39 pm #638858
CaduceusMemberI can’t make it this week. :/
Westseattledood and I should start a “gettin’ our priorities straight” group. :]
September 23, 2008 at 10:11 pm #638859
JenVMembernext week, Cad!
September 23, 2008 at 11:03 pm #638860
charlabobParticipantOK, what’s the age range? It would be embarassing to be the oldest and the most inept. Somehow you’re supposed to be able to knit by the time you’re <mumble-years-old> :-)
Seriously, it sounds like fun and I’ll be there as soon as I can be anywhere.
September 23, 2008 at 11:34 pm #638861
JenVMembercharla- it’s not polite to ask a woman’s age! :)
let’s put it this way – I am 34…and probably somewhere right in the middle. I think. And I got to this age without learning how to knit. There’s everyone from bare beginners like me to super experienced knitters like Ellenater and Traci…some natters, some crossstichers and at least one crocheter.
September 23, 2008 at 11:47 pm #638862
ellenaterMembercharlabob, don’t worry about it. everyone is in some degree of learning and it’s really fun. there’s a broad range of ages and skill levels, too. we don’t have any dudes though…yet!
seriously, it’s a very good group!
