Also be aware that property owners do not ‘own’ trees on the planting strip, even if they bought/put them there, and only a City-approved arborist may prune them. I see a lot of landscapers hacking trees on planting strips (that are public right-of-way) which they are not allowed to do. Also, a permit is required for any such “trimming”.
Anonyme, we need the branches cut back because they’re hanging over the sidewalk and get in people’s way when they’re walking. Do you know if I need a permit for that?
You need a permit if you’re trimming in the right of way, but you don’t need to sit back and wait for the city to trim trees for you (I would suggest that’s like waiting for another lane to “grow” on the high bridge).
