AnonymousInactiveNot willing to believe the racist claim based on just hearsay. The original reporter does, however, defend his work if you’re interested.

JoBParticipantJenny…
you really should have gone further. the reporter you disparage wrote a second article because of the flack he got for quoting anonymous sources and buried right in the middle of it was this little gem..
http://mudflats.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/palin-2006-vetting.pdf
60+ pages of the vetting local Alaska democrats did of Sarah Palin… long before she was a VP contender.
my oh my
even i couldn’t read all 63 pages… but just the first few will keep you busy for days.

ZenguyParticipantSorry, there is no way of “casually” making racist comments, racism is racism. I do not care if the entire state does it or not, wrong is wrong is wrong!
We all need to start calling racism what it is and start telling others we are not willing to put up with it. I for one will not be silent on this topic.

JoBParticipantZenguy…
speaking up is a good thing.
and speaking up about racism is a very good thing.
There is apparently a lot Sarah Palin didn’t learn either at home or in school.. and every time she opens her mouth and another crude or racist remarks rolls out, she simply proves her ignorance.
September 15, 2008 at 5:16 am #638756
GenHillOneParticipantAnd can we remember that if she were to win the VP, she might be casually speaking to heads of state…want to take that chance?
September 15, 2008 at 5:32 am #638757
acemotelParticipantOh, social worker in motion, I am so sorry. I feel responsible for that unwarranted attack on your good nature. If someone doesn’t bother to read the thread, they don’t understand why certain comments are made. It’s pretty desperate to hammer in on a bantering comment rather than issues of substance. Such as lying.
Republicans, here is your candidate. Unfortunately it doesn’t include the clip of McCain referring to Putin as president of Germany.
THESE ARE DANGEROUS PEOPLE.

soclwrkrinmotnMemberacemotel, I don’t take it seriously. I can’t.
I do have strong feelings on this suject, and whereas I will post it else, here’s what I think one of the real issues are.
http://www.redroom.com/blog/tim-wise/this-your-nation-white-privilege
And it is this mindset that allows people to think racist comments are no big thing.
And the whole state doesn’t think that…most of them think she is part of the problem. Alaska Natives are 20% of the population, and there are sizable Asian American, African American and Latino communities too. Palin has dismal records on supporting Alaska Native issues.

ZenguyParticipantIn a state of 670,000 people 1,500 is a pretty significant protest.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Sept. 14 (UPI) — Hundreds of anti-Sarah Palin protesters in Anchorage, Alaska, say they reject the Republican U.S. vice presidential nominee as unqualified.
Gathered Saturday in midtown Anchorage, the group was estimated to be about 1,500, making for the largest street demonstration in recent Alaskan history, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
The newspaper said the protest started out as a modest effort by a group called Alaska Women Reject Palin but quickly swelled as word of it was spread via the Internet. Participants said it gained traction because of widespread concerns and frustrations over what some called “the myth” of the Alaska governor.
“Sarah Palin frightens the hell out of me. I don’t want her anywhere near the White House,” said Marybeth Holleman of Anchorage.
Alison Till, a geologist in Anchorage with the U.S. Geological Survey, told the Daily News that energy and global warming challenges require a solid and unbiased view of science to address.
“She is unqualified,” Till said.

JennyMemberWell, all I can say is, keep running with these kinds of charges, backed up by all those credible sources you’re using. Y’all will beat McP for sure. ;)

JoBParticipantJenny,
the link soclwrkrinmotn posted is one of the most succinct descriptions of white priveledge as it applies to the current election as i have read anywhere.
and.. the republican party must agree
since they are doing everything they can to purge voter rolls in what they consider swing states of voters of color… even servicemen… and just to be safe.. those who are urban, white and not of privilege as well.
In fact, i think any registered democrat should check their voter registration before the end of the month to ensure that they are in fact registered.. and reregister if they aren’t.

soclwrkrinmotnMemberFollowing your thread, here, JoB.

It’s also going on in the southwest, and a few other places, both rural and urban.

JoBParticipantanother article speaking about bias in labeling in this election…
unfortunately, it too compares the bias in labeling for Palin to that of Barak.. without the racist subtext.
but it still contains fairly interesting commentary on the way our media can bias public perception by the choice of words…

btw.. in case you are wondering.. i don’t go looking for these things.. they come in my mailbox. i just search out the links so you can read the entire article yourself.

GenHillOneParticipantZenguy – even more impressive when you hear the latest count of 497 (including the band) who attended her “welcome home” rally that morning. I’ll say again, they did some great camera work!

JoBParticipanta turnout of 3 to 1 against in her own home town is not impressive.
