JenVMemberLast night we were taking a walk through the junction and decided to pop into Talaricos for a beer and to watch the game. We sat down at a table near the bar. 10 minutes pass. It’s not terribly busy in there. Finally a girl comes over with water and informs us our waitress will be with us shortly. There are at least 3 waitresses on the floor, two of which walked by our table multiple times. 10 more minutes pass. Finally we get up and decide to just sit at the bar in hopes of getting *some* service. The bartender looked right at us, and left. Presumably went on his break. We waited maybe 5 minutes and then left. This is the worst excuse for service I have ever received. I will not ever go back to Talaricos…and it makes me miss the New Luck Toy all the more. And yes, I will be calling the manager when they open today, but it won’t make any difference. You can’t take back terrible service.
We headed to Shadowland instead – and got EXCELLENT service & AMAZING food.
Anyone else have any Talaricos poor service stories to share?

austinMemberThe one and only time I’ve been to talaricos (nine months ago) I received similar treatment. My associate and I were feeling especially slow that day, but over an hour to order and eat a single slice of pizza and a single pint of beer (which no one offered to refill) seemed excessive, even to us. The pizza was mediocre, the televisions were large, many, and loud, and the service was nearly nonexistent. The best thing I can say about talaricos is that you can get an enormous pizza, eventually, but the thing about so-so pizza is that it doesn’t get any better the more there is of it. My first trip to talaricos was also my last.

beachdrivegirlParticipantI am really surprised to hear this. My fiance and i go to Talaricos on a fairly regular bases and have never received treatment like this. I enjoy their pizza and especially enjoy that they have cider. hopefully this was just freak incident.

MissKMemberThat is so weird! Everytime I have gone there I have been served in a fair amount of time. I am actually going there tonight and will see if the service has dropped. You would think in these times they would be all over people, so they could get some great tips?
October 27, 2008 at 5:05 pm #645171
villagegreenMemberSorry to hear about your experience. I’d probably never go back as well if I was treated like that.
I’ve been there probably 15 or 20 times and have never experienced anything like that. Guess I’m lucky since I also think it’s the best pizza in WS (and it has nothing to do with the size).
Hope the manager is receptive to your complaint. Even though I like their pizza I still miss New Luck Toy!

AnonymousInactiveThat’s a bummer, but does sound like an off day. I love Talarico’s and have had nothing but great service and food.

JimmyGMemberToo strange JenV! We were at Talarico’s last night also (around 5 PM) and after we left the comment from my friend was, “let’s give them a rest before we go back.”
We’re regulars and love, love, love the pizza there. They were actually kind of busy when we were there, and we didn’t recognize one of the servers. Normally we get stellar and prompt service–and last night it took probably 3 times the length of time it normally takes to get our slices.
I won’t give up on the place, but we’ll give it a few months before we return.
October 27, 2008 at 5:53 pm #645174
AimParticipantJen we had a similar experience a couple of years ago and decided to never go back. And we haven’t. Rather spend my money somewhere like EBB or Azuma where they show that they care whether or not you return.

B-squaredParticipantI was there during happy hour once. Sat at the bar and got immediate service, but i was one of the few people in there. Pizza was not to my liking at all, so that’s why i won’t be back. there are far better pizzas in west seattle to be had.

flowerpetalMemberLooks as if it is going to be challenging to find “poor service stories” here. I am not a Talarico’s regular but have been 3-4 times. So I’m sure I am not treated as a familiar face. I have always had quick and attentive service there and yummylicious pizza.
Sorry that your experience was bad JenV.
October 27, 2008 at 6:29 pm #645177
MissKMemberWow some of you are a tough crowd. I mean if you get bad service once, you can chaulk it up to a server down, more patrons than servers, etc. There is always a reason. At least give em one more try. If it still is like the 1st then call it a day.
I am going to test the waters tonight and see if it maybe was an off night for Talriccos.
October 27, 2008 at 6:39 pm #645178
KeithMemberIt’s the huge TVs that keep me away from Talarico’s. They’re distracting and hard to ignore, and not just for customers– I was in there once and the bartender was paying way more attention to the boob tube than to us. Lame!
I still go in there every once in a while, but only if I feel like having a TV Dinner experience.
October 27, 2008 at 6:43 pm #645179
AimParticipantThere are many times I’ve given places a second shot. It’s usually pretty clear when it’s an “off night” or they’re down a server. However, it’s also generally pretty clear when you’re being told your business is not wanted. If it’s never happened to you, I can’t explain the difference. Those are the times I don’t feel the need to give them a second shot. They made it clear.

FullTiltParticipantIt is the giant TVs keeps me away from this place. I really hate TVs in bars and restaurants.
October 27, 2008 at 7:26 pm #645181
charlabobParticipantI don’t have an opinion about Talarico’s (I’ve been there once — service was fine, pizza eh?) The Bob goes there often and is always pleased (or he wouldn’t go there often.)
WRT being a tough audience, I’m very tolerant of “bad service” when the waitstaff is obviously overloaded and doesn’t get to me right away. BUT people standing around talking, not waiting on anyone, and ignoring me only get one chance. And I’m very good at leaving in a snit, though I seldom have to.
They used to have Karaoke, right? (Or am I thinking of another place nearby?)

villagegreenMember“I really hate TVs in bars and restaurants.”
Even in a British pub? What’s a good British pub without football/soccer on the telly? Or maybe you don’t consider pubs the same as bars. I enjoyed watching a World Cup game at Talarico’s a couple years back.
I definitely agree that Tvs can ruin a certain type of bar atmosphere, but I don’t think Talarico’s is really going for that feel. Having the baseball game on while I’m eating a slice of pizza is fine with me.
October 27, 2008 at 9:44 pm #645183
JenVMemberI see no reason to give them a second chance – they obviously have no interest in my business. There were waitresses standing around doing nothing, and the bartender thought it was more important to take a smoke break rather than serve paying customers. But I will certainly let y’all know what the manager says if they are even interested in hearing my complaint.
October 27, 2008 at 9:49 pm #645184
AnonymousInactiveIf they offer you a free meal, will you give it away on the forum?
Seeing as you won’t go back…..
And several people seem to like it there…..?

flowerpetalMemberI fully support your decision not to give Talarico’s a second chance. Its a free market after all. I also support someone’s choice to give a second try to a restaurant.
As for t.v.’s and dining; I too find that a bad combination. At Talarico’s I choose places away from the big screens. I like talking to people I am out with, not staring at a screen.
October 27, 2008 at 9:52 pm #645187
GenHillOneParticipantNever been (standing on principal for our household’s under-age diner) but I still don’t even know how to pronounce their name so I guess they aren’t discussed much in our circle, lol.
October 27, 2008 at 9:54 pm #645188
JenVMemberhell yes, I would give away a free meal there. I am not too wild about their pizza. we really just stopped in for a beer and to watch the game.
…and I sincerely doubt they would offer a free meal.
October 27, 2008 at 9:56 pm #645189
biankatParticipantMy husband and friends from Burien are Talarico’s regulars. We’re always received the best service and food (Sarah is the best!). I know they’ve had some staff changes recently. Perhaps they just need time to get eveyone up to speed.

vincentMemberStellar pizza in Georgetown is superior in every way.
Except for over serving, talericos wins that one everytime. The legacy of stupid drunk people stumbling out of that building and puking on the street lives on… viva new luck talericos!
October 27, 2008 at 10:28 pm #645191
beachdrivegirlParticipantStellar pizza is amazing. Honestly the best pizza in Seattle.
