I wrote a book on Martini’s, and if you ever need any help on ideas, I’m all ears.
You definitely should combine wine and martini’s, it’s important.
coffee at the same place?
My advice, be good at one thing whether coffee or libations but trying to be both would prove to be difficult.

JanSParticipanthmmm…and here I thought that the “bar” part of your name had something to do with what you do for a living…now we know ;-)
April 24, 2008 at 3:35 am #622825
beachdrivegirlParticipantJanS I do believe we are all talking about the same place. …and jans took me a minute to get your last comment about the “bar” but I love it!!!
April 24, 2008 at 3:54 am #622826
ErikParticipantJan and I used to work at the same bar
April 24, 2008 at 3:55 am #622827
barmargiaMemberLOL…okay, that was funny JanS.

celeste17ParticipantI to am a victim of corporate downsizing and I am looking for work now. So, if you do start up this wine and martini bar and need someone to do the books let me know. :)
April 24, 2008 at 6:38 am #622829
LKimballMembercan’t sleep…thought this blog looked interesting…something like a pinkberry that serves frozen yogurt and fresh fruit toppings.
April 24, 2008 at 7:13 am #622830
AnonymousInactiveLKimball… All of us on this forum were wondering if you ever received an apology from Alki Cafe?
The letter that you wrote to the Herald and then shared with us started some heated debates. If you did hear anything from Alki, please share that. A lot of people were saying that the Cafe could possibly take this opportunity and turn it into a positive.
Hope you are ok!
April 24, 2008 at 7:28 am #622831
JanSParticipantErik…that bar where we worked definitely wasn’t as much fun…
April 24, 2008 at 9:13 am #622832
addParticipantWine and/or martinis on Beach Drive? I’m there! (But what about parking??)
April 24, 2008 at 2:54 pm #622833
KayleighMemberHow about a World Wrapps? I could also go for frozen yogurt.
April 24, 2008 at 3:12 pm #622834
AnonymousInactiveSo how does this sound? That building across from La Rustica with the fantastic view, great wine, an array of martinis, some appetizers (bruschetta, etc.), tables outside in the grass (and tables inside). Do you all think it would take off?
April 24, 2008 at 3:25 pm #622835
beachdrivegirlParticipantNR, I definit. think it would take off. It is exactly what West Seattle needs!!
April 24, 2008 at 3:30 pm #622836
AnonymousInactiveBDG – I completely agree! Now all we need is about $100,000 (just to cover the rent!), anyone have that laying around and want to get rid of it?
I remember someone asking on the forum if Admiral Pub was a good “mom’s-night-out place, and I had to admit, not so much. This really could be! Also, I would think people wanting to eat at La Rustica wouldn’t mind a wait so much if they have a place to hang out.
It’s really cool to see that a lot of the people who live in that area (yourself included) would love to have a place like that open up. There really is nothing else around their besides La Rustica (if there is, please correct me because I don’t know that area too well).
April 24, 2008 at 3:32 pm #622837
JenVMemberNR if you open it, I might just get past my ban on all things Alki…look up Black Bottle in Belltown- they have a great merger of wine+tapas in a cool/casual setting. http://www.blackbottleseattle.com/
April 24, 2008 at 3:33 pm #622838
AnonymousInactivecharla – Just now saw your post from yesterday….Bingo! Not the news we wanted to hear!
April 24, 2008 at 3:41 pm #622839
beachdrivegirlParticipantSo it sounds like we just need the funds… anyone out there??
And you are right there are no other little bars on Beach DR…most times you end up in Alki and in the summer Alki draws in lots of people so it can be a bit tough to find a place to go.
I definitly love the concept/idea and JenV Black Bottle does rock and is exactly the sort of place I was envisioning…
April 24, 2008 at 3:48 pm #622840
AnonymousInactiveParking would definitely be in issue, but isn’t it everywhere? I don’t think that would keep people away, but it would be a reason the closer neighbors would use to try and get it to not happen.
JenV, thank you for that link. WS really doesn’t have too many upscale type bars (not that it would be fancy).
Who would like to donate to this project? Can we hold a fund raiser for a new business to get STARTED? Lol!
April 24, 2008 at 3:54 pm #622841
beachdrivegirlParticipantI figure that people park on Beach DR to go to La Rustica so i think we can assume that people would do the same for a place with great drinks, apps, and a view…
I will start organizing the fundraiser now…
April 24, 2008 at 3:59 pm #622842
AnonymousInactiveBDG – I will canvass the Admiral Junction and hand out flyers! Lol!
April 24, 2008 at 11:10 pm #622843
beachdrivegirlParticipantGoodnews!! Jiggers posted in another thread that although Restaurants have a low success rate when opened in a bad economy bars typically do just as well!! I was sure glad to hear this… :)
April 24, 2008 at 11:12 pm #622844
AnonymousInactiveThat’s really interesting, BDG! I was just thinking about whether that would be a good idea to do something like that in todays day and age, but I guess people will always drink!
Thanks for sharing!
April 24, 2008 at 11:23 pm #622845
andreaParticipantI’d love to see a local restaurant that delivers ice cream and frozen yogurt, not just food! we had one when I was in college, and it was so cool to have a blizzrd-like treat brought right to your door.
April 24, 2008 at 11:35 pm #622846
ErikParticipant“to all my friends!” Mickey Rourke in ‘Barfly.’
BDG,NewRes – Have you talked to any other bar owners to get a feel for what needs to be done (business-wise), I have kind of an idea as I did some of my senior work at WSU consulting with small businesses….this is assuming you’re serious about this?
