If this is truly a problem at the park, I fail to see how discussing legal courses of action to stop the problem is sickening. Yes the owner needs to be apprehended, but to think your going to safely do that yourself by running around pepper spraying the dog and the owner is a bit absurd.

While I admit it would be quite satisfying to spray the owner, unless the dog is directly threatening you, other people, or other pets, I think it would be a poor choice.

I can’t tell you how many times when confronted with owners without the sense to control their animals i have been tempted to simply pop the leash on my pups and watch the fur fly…

    i haven’t. i won’t. but i have been sorely tempted.

Well, this is somewhat tangential to the OP but I’ll post it yet again since it deals with dogs and Lincoln Park.

THERE IS A WAY TO GET AN ADDITIONAL OFF LEASH PARK FOR DOGS ALREADY PRESCRIBED. IF EXECUTED BY THE DOG OWNERS, THIS AND ALL THE ASSOCIATED ISSUES GO AWAY.

All that needs to happen is for those pet owners to get off their – INSERT EXPLETIVE OF CHOICE HERE – butts AND START THE OLP PROCESS. THERE’S A GROUP WHOSE SOLE PURPOSE IS TO CREATE AND MANAGE THESE THINGS. CONTACT THEM. START A PETITION, YOU LAZY, HYPOCRITICAL $*%&(%#(@’s

    End rant.

PS – I will repost in any further dog-related threads until SOMEBODY ACTUALLY FRICKING DOES SOMETHING.

    Have a nice day.

Pardon my attitude but I’ve posted the process for this MULTIPLE times over the last year.

IF ANYONE HAD SPENT HALF AS MUCH EFFORT ON THE PROCESS AS THEY HAD POSTING TO THIS BLOG, YOU’D HAVE AN OFF LEASH AREA BY NOW.

    Sweet Jeebus, people are selfish.

Wake, I respect your position and totally understand your frustration. However, I don’t believe the problem will go away if there is another off-leash park – even if it were near or within Lincoln Park. It might even get worse. This happens everywhere, all the time, not just in our parks. It’s arrogance, entitlement, and a total lack of enforcement.

In this post, the dogs are not only off-leash, but encouraged to slaughter wildlife. An off-leash park is no solution for that level of psychosis. I shudder to think of what other forms of “entertainment” these scumbags engage in.

2 Much Whine, that may have been the best posting to this thread yet.

There are so many good points made throughout this thread, and so many frustrating ones. To “resort to vigilantism” over the witness of an event seems ludicrous, so does taking matters into one’s hand with pepper spray…You do realizse it’s legal to carry a weapon in this state with the proper permits, I don’t know that I would get all trigger happy on the pepper spray because for YOUR safety you don’t know what the other folks have with them–people protect their animals like their kids, be smart about this.

I think Wake has the best suggestion and petition for another off leash area–it’s responsible and it’s needed, Westcrest just isn’t cutting it and let’s face it everyone West Seattle is only growing exponentially much to the chagrin of all the natives of this wonderful neighborhood we call home.

I am a dog owner who frequently walks his two beloved dogs at Lincoln Park–on leash mind you, and yes I find it frustrating when other dogs are off leash because my animals don’t understand why they are kept on one. I echo the sentiments of others, stop blaming the animals, this is owner accountability and if people are so quick to whip out a can of pepper spray to save a squirrel (which in my own yard would be fair game and is) then have the cajones to walk up to another adult and confront them about the behavior.

So, Greystreet, thanks for the compliment. Without trying to sound clever, does that mean you’re going to start the petition for the OLA??? ;-)

Rowsea- just curious. What time of day did this occur?

I’m the gal that mauled by the dog at uptown espresso. Dogs chase movement, the issue is of course that the owner insights the dog to chase, prey and kill. As a for instance, a dog might be great with cats in your home but if they are outside and the cat runs the game begins. Clearly the owner finds this amusing and until someone official calls the person on it it won’t stop. The owner needs the discipline first, that being said, considering animal control didn’t even give the owner a ticket that deformed my leg permanently, I doubt they would do anything to this owner. ..oh wait, off leash, well maybe they would get a ticket as that is SO much worse than maiming a human!

Its about time the WSB finally does something to save us from these wild animals people call pets.

I nominate anyone else to do something, as just like the rest of y’all, I choose to post my complaints on the innerwebs and all I need is your sympathy.

Wild animals – you mean, like TROLLS?

Yep, the beast under the bridge that comes out to add some sanity to the otherwise inane whining that dominates these forums.

If you want something to change, it takes effort beyond complaining the WSB forums.

Swapping victim stories all afternoon isn’t going to solve your issue.

So, this troll’s infinite wisdom extends to having comprehensive knowledge of every word, every action, that every commenter has taken to alleviate the problem? Must every post be accompanied by an essay and resume so that you, O glorious Troll, can judge their right to comment?

And exactly what is your contribution – except for your own brand of whine?

OK, I took the bait and fed the troll, but I’m done now.

    Yummy, Troll likey.

I don’t have to do anything but read what is written.

yes, I do have my own brand of whine, I accept that.

It isn’t the post I am trolling, that was actually productive. “here is what happened and here is a way that I did my part to resolve”

Instead its all of this other made up BS that makes it sound like we live amongst dangerous people and scary animals and everyone is in danger! followed by “well we can’t do anything about it anyway”

Sorry you don’t like me, but I live here too.

Just in case anyone is wondering. . . . .there are some recent threads that all refer to whining. I like to whine now and then and I’ve also been accused of being a troll on occasion but this time that other poster isn’t me – if anyone cares – I never hide behind a different name than the one I already hide behind.

A new off leash area in Lincoln Park would not be the answer. Animal Control says many people let their dogs off leash out side of off leash areas. I don’t think an off leash area is the answer for us.We already have Westcrest.

Can’t wait for the Portlandia episode.

    nice diversion tactic..

labeling those who bring public attention to people cavalierly breaking the law and endangering public safety whiners and thus belittling their concerns.

the first step towards better enforcement of existing laws is public pressure for enforcement…

what better place to build public pressure than on the forums of a neighborhood news source?

especially one our local officials read.

Diversion Tactic? LOL. Am I the squirrel hunter?

So being a forum, all opinions should be accepted, yeah?

So my inane comments plus your inane comments are equally valid, right?

I would agree with you about building public pressure for change, if:

    1. The content of the pressure pointed a plan of some sort, as opposed to the constant self victimization.

    2. These forums had the actual west seattl public, instead of the same 12 career forum members that dominate these forums and swarm / drive away anyone with opposing views to their own. It is a constant theme across all the topics.

The local officials that read this, are looking for a laugh over their morning coffee.

Rowsea – I wasn’t asking for an off leash area in Lincoln Park. I’m asking for people who obviously want at least one more than the “too far away, too busy” Westcrest park, to CREATE another OLA or two.

The problem would certainly be mitigated to some degree by having at least one more centrally located park. I don’t have a dog in this fight OTHER than I’m way past f*cking FED UP with the lazy asses who can’t be bothered to actually DO ANYTHING about the issue that they’ve created.

Their opinions on this subject are 100% discounted down to ZERO until they bother to look in the fricking mirror and realize they’re the problem. Not me, who doesn’t own a dog. And not the people who bother to actually abide by the law.

Personally, I’d like to see each and every one of the off leashers get a ticket every damn day until they do something.

this reminds me of a facebook post i saw recently in which some Teapublican public figure posted that he thought that people ought to spend their time lobbying for education instead of demonstrating about things they cared about…

the irony there was that this teapublican advocates cutting funding to public schools

i never have been able to figure out what he actually cares about

JoB, Your example makes me wonder why the President’s budget wants to cut a VERY successful School Voucher program in DC that would hurt many children from getting a better education. I guess the NEA lobbyists got to him on that one . . . again.

I just might breed some very large squirrels and have them attack dogs!!! I would hate for the squirrels to go after the nuts, I mean owners too.

Just kidding. Sort of. I think. Maybe … Sounds like a SyFy channel script!!!

gotta love the people who take the time to post a complaint about people who post but can’t find anything more substantial to attack than style ;->
