Laurie97MemberOur soon-to-be 2nd grader is on the waitlist for Spectrum at Lafayette. If I were a betting person I would say our chances are zero. Again. (We were on the waitlist last year too.)
I am seeking other parents in the same boat. We don’t want to switch schools but we DO want our smart kid to be challenged at a higher level than the regular 2nd grade class. Ideas? A separate math tutor for a group of the kids? If you are a parent in this situation – or if you know a parent who is – please comment. Thanks!

karenParticipantI hear that you don’t want to change schools, however, rumor has it that the Spectrum program it Arbor Heights has lots of openings.

BonnieParticipantHow long is the waitlist?
Yes, AH does have a new Spectrum program. From what I understand they just need more kids to attend in order to really get it off the ground.

Laurie97MemberLast year he was at #2 but the list is taken down in, I think, October. All year I had my fingers crossed that a Spectrum kid would move or move up to APP but when we got the assignment last week he had been bumped down to #5.
I just learned that Arbor Heights has a new-ish Spectrum class but that would be a 10-mile trip every morning and afternoon for me to take him there, and I work full-time. I don’t even know if I’d put him on such a long bus ride even if the district provided it. Do either of you have first-hand experience with AH? What do you think?

BonnieParticipantMy daughter goes to AH. It will have a new Principal next year so hopefully something good will come out of it. I don’t have first hand experience with Spectrum.
