I’m interested in possibly moving in the vicinity of Seola Park on Marine View Drive, and was wondering if anyone knows about the safety of living near that park. I drove by it last night and noticed teenagers parked in front of it, hanging out in the car, making lots of noise. Made me think that it might be a hang out – its a pretty dark place and seems to be a great place to partake in certain extracurricular activities :) Would I call the Seattle police department to see if there have been complaint calls about vagrants, or is there a better number to call, or different resource. Also wondering about that neighborhood in general. Has anyone on the forum lived there? Thank you for any help you can provide!!

The park is within the city limits and that’s Seattle Police jurisdiction. However, there’s no particular police number you can call just to ask about the safety of a general area. You can certainly try calling the Southwest Precinct’s desk and asking their advice on how to find out that information – but otherwise, Seattle crime stats online boil down to census tract so you would want to search that for such an area. I can tell you anecdotally, I can’t recall any major incidents reported there in the past two-plus years of intensively covering West Seattle news.

Crime stats have been added to the My Neighborhood map – try this.

Thanks for that info. I did call and they told me to ask the neighbors. It’s good to know, though, that you haven’t heard about anything major. If you’ve been covering WS that long, I’m sure you would have heard something. The policeman I talked to didn’t even know where Seola Park was! So, that’s a good indicator.
