Seattle Cop Punches Woman

I support the police officer. Yes, the punch LOOKS scary, but he really didn’t have much choice. This is an actual, legitimate police response. He showed considerable restraint. No physical damage was done. It’s utterly idiotic to fight and curse a police officer. I mean, if I were cited for jaywalking, I’d be plenty annoyed, but I wouldn’t try to fight the cop!

On the other hand, isn’t it silly that this is getting international coverage? Don’t we have more important things to concern ourselves with?

Stina, I don’t know how old you are, or where you were raised, but why would you fear any cop, unless you were a criminal? And why is jaywalking a crime?? From what I understand about the area this happened. There is a lot of traffic, and it’s dangerous, which is why there is a overhead walk way that these little hoodlums didn’t use.

The cop acted properly, this was a potential very dangerous situation for him with this group around him. Just 2 years ago a cop was killed in Bellevue when he tried to get control of a guy wondering around a intersecition nude. The guy pulled out the cops gun and killed the cop.

There is a simple rule, respect the cops and laws and you’ll have no problems.

And don’t forget that AFTER you run over the jaywalker and kill them, you then get sued, probably tickted, and then have to live with yourself after killing someone. And imagine if your kids are in the car with you…

Stina… I think the biggest concern in your post is the sentence “And, why is absolute obedience to police officers expected?” This is the exact thinking that got those two girls arrested after a simple jay-walking stop. Obedience should be given to cops. If you have a problem with what the cops are doing then take it to the courts or law makers.

It disappoints me that this has become a race issue.

and did anyone happen to catch the brief video of Ms. Levias going into court this morning? Smiling for the camera, and yelling out “look ma, I’m on TV”…she’s proud of herself, and isn’t taking this very seriously. The last charge against her was dismissed, and I’m betting that she’s thinking this one will be, too – and then the lawsuits can begin.

Sigh.

Teen apologizes to officer

SEATTLE- Late yesterday evening, the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle contacted the Seattle Police Department on behalf of Angel Rosenthal the 17-year-old teen who was involved in the officer assault incident, Monday, June 14th. The incident was caught on tape and the video has been seen around the world.

The teenager and her legal team, along with Mr. James Kelly, President and CEO of the Urban League approached the Seattle Police Department regarding the young woman’s desire to meet with Officer Walsh and apologize for her role in the unfortunate incident. .

This morning, there was a meeting between Officer Walsh and the 17-year-old girl. At the meeting the young woman apologized to Walsh for her actions and comments during the incident. Officer Walsh accepted the young woman’s apology. This meeting can be credited to President James Kelly. Also present and supporting these efforts were Rich O’Neill, President of the Seattle Police Officer’s Guild, Deputy Chief Nick Metz and Rev. Reggie Witherspoon, Pastor of Mount Calvary Christian Center.

Interim Chief John Diaz said, “Officer Walsh was approached about this and agreed to meet with this young woman. He did not have to do this, but he felt it was an important first step in the beginning of the healing process. I want to personally thank Officer Walsh for his willingness to participate in this dialogue in what has been, undoubtedly, a very stressful period. I would also like to thank Angel. I think her willingness to reach out to Officer Walsh shows bravery and maturity. We hope that this meeting will take the focus off the video clip and place it where it belongs, the need for the renewed commitment to a conversation about race and social justice in this city.”

According to Dan Satterberg, the charging decision in this case lies with the King County Prosecutors Office and that decision had no bearing on this meeting. The 17-year-old will be charged with 1 count of Assault 3.
