From tonight’s Junction Neighborhood Organization Meeting:

Jonathan Dong, Senior Transportation Planner at the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), is looking for input from West Seattle residents regarding the types of buses in use by King County Metro.

Specifically, he is seeking to gather information from citizens in response to King County’s recently announced study regarding the possible conversion of the electric buses currently in use to new diesel-electric hybrids (the same type of bus that will be used in the upcoming RapidRide system).

Mr. Dong distributed a short questionnaire recently to the Southwest District Council and asked neighborhood organizations to seek opinions from citizens. If you would like to participate, please e-mail Mr. Dong (jonathan.dong@seattle.gov) with your answers to the following:

    1. In which neighborhood to you reside?

    2. If you ride the bus, which route(s) do you use?

    3. What is your perception of electric buses compared with diesel and diesel hybrid buses?

    __ No difference

    __ Negative

    __ Positive

    4. If you answered positive above, what are your reasons? (check all that apply)

__ Electric buses are quieter than other Metro buses

__ Electric buses emit less greenhouse gases and other pollution

__ Electric buses seem faster than other Metro buses

    __ Other (please describe):

    5. If you answered negative above, what are your reasons? (check all that apply)

    __ Electric wires are unattractive

__ Electric buses seem more expensive to operate than other Metro buses

__ Electric buses seem slower than diesel buses

    __ Other (please describe):

    6. Some King County policymakers appear to favor the removal of electric buses (which would be replaced with diesel-powered buses). Would you support this idea if it included some cost savings?

    __ Yes

    __ No

    __ Don’t care

    7. Would you support Metro investing funds to convert more bus routes to electric?

    __ Yes

    __ No

    __ Don’t care

    Thank you for your participation.
