redblackParticipantoh, btw, rich. do you know what blood libel refers to? you might not be so quick to defend sarah’s use of that word if you did. it’s a nasty concept, and comparing liberals’ various positions on the causes of the giffords assassination with blood libel makes her look like a paranoid religious bigot and a moron.

JanSParticipantand then there’s this…
(bleeped adult words – well, at least one…hehe)

JoBParticipantHMCRich..
ROFLOL…
“Sarah Palin has been the recipient of a concentrated witch hunt. Nobody has been savaged more than her in recent memory”
Really?????
Do you have no memory of Hillary Clinton who was ravaged for everything from her homemaking skills to her hairstyle to “meddling in politics” to …
for decades?
Your memory doesn’t extend that far?
I have vivid memories of catching some of that backlash myself in the last presidential election :(
Give it a rest dude.
You just made my point in spades…
Sarah has dug a deep hole for herself
and she keeps digging at it…
but it doesn’t really matter
because the poor little Sarah contingent
will wail poor little Sarah all the way to the ballot box
without ever stopping to ask what she actually stands for.
How you can make it a virtue to strip employees of their legally contracted wage and benefits after retirement is beyond me.
what you call bloated pension plans i call deferred wages.
And in New Jersey they are going after public servants… teachers first.. police and firemen next.
‘Forking’ over public servants..
And all in the name of patriotism.
That’s not a brand of patriotism i could be proud of.

WSMomParticipantThank you Stephen Colbert…
“I know you think Sarah Palin is at best a self promoting ignoramus, and at worst a shameless media troll who will abuse any platform to deliver dog whistle encouragement to a far right base that may include possible insurrectionists.
and
“I know you think her transparent desperation to be a celebrity so completely eclipsed her interest in public service so long ago, that there would be more journalistic integrity in reporting on one of the lesser Kardashian’s ass implants.” This one made me laugh out loud!!
January 20, 2011 at 12:15 am #714023
KBearParticipantSarah’s a quitter. That’s all you need to know about her commitment to public service.
January 20, 2011 at 1:30 am #714024
dgirlMemberAmen KBear….she is a quitter. She quit! She quit public service! She quit her voters. She quit, she quit and she quit. How do you defend that?
January 20, 2011 at 2:34 am #714025
JoBParticipantdgirl..
unfortunately.. i know the sarah worshiping answer to that..
she didn’t quit…
she changed jobs for the greater good ;-> ;->
after all.. without Sarah we wouldn’t have a republican majority in the congress now…
i am not sure what the greater good is in electing a group of people who spend their first days in office voting a repeal bill that the Senate has stated it won’t even take up …
are we to believe it’s to the greater good to elect people who will waste the opportunity to craft laws that can be passed just so they can throw their weight around and grandstand?
Or are we to believe it’s to the greater good to repeal the health care reform bill so that insurance companies can once again deny our insurance retroactively and deny us coverage because of pre-existing conditions?
Wasn’t that what prompted health care reform in the first place?
but hey..
Sarah didn’t quit..
she sacrificed for the greater good
and the greater paycheck.

RarelyEverParticipantwell, keep in mind that if she wasn’t around we would have missed out on that great segment jon stewart did last night… when he started with ‘good news out of tucson – the victim of the shooting is recovering well, in large part due to her nurse, sean hannity’. soooo funny.

HMC RichParticipantHow’s this. You are being judgemental and condescending. You are intolerant of outside opinions. You are bullying in your comments and this group think is harmful and hateful. You are attacking a person just for defending herself. You complain about the upper class and middle class but show no class.
Should I start a thread about Nancy Pelosi? No, I don’t want to. She has made mistakes and has been caught lying, but I don’t jump all over her when she is not part of a bogus issue.
Sometimes I just wonder if some of you are just jealous of a woman like Mrs. Palin. But I know better. You dislike her as much as many disliked Hillary Clinton.
Welcome to politics. I guess civility is a choice.
January 21, 2011 at 2:26 pm #714029
redblackParticipantnope. you don’t get off that easy, rich. civility is indeed a choice; so is making hunting references when referring to political opponents, or implying that you’re “locked and loaded.”
politics is a blood sport, remember? [wink]
you’re right: it’s not jealousy. i truly dislike sarah palin and her politics. same way i hated w. same way you probably hated carter. and do i need to mention – or cite – the amount of vitriol and hatred garnered by barack hussein obama?
“We used to hustle over the border for health care we received in Canada. And I think now, isn’t that ironic?”
–Sarah Palin
Blood libel (also blood accusation) refers to a false accusation or claim that religious minorities, usually Jews, murder children to use their blood in certain aspects of their religious rituals and holidays.
when christian nut balls mention blood libel, they usually accuse jews of eating christian babies, not just using them for ritualized murder.
yep. she’s klassy, all right.
speaking of ironic and klassy, i got my parents a bumper sticker for christmas at not a number gifts in wallingford. it says, “palin 2012: are you f%$&#@ kidding?”
i doubt they’ll display it, though. people on the kitsap peninsula are a bit hostile toward liberals.
January 21, 2011 at 3:04 pm #714030
redblackParticipantyou know what, rich? the more i think about your post @ 60, the more angry i get.
sarah palin is one of the least tolerant people in america. she belittles, berates, and scorns liberals. she even talks down to her own supporters like they’re children. she’s ignorant of u.s. foreign policy – and arrogant about being ignorant. she whines about the “lamestream media” (hyuk hyuk!) – the same corporate media that gives attention to every half-witted pearl that falls from her mouth. when referring to the president, she’s spiteful and condescending, and she summons the specter of soviet communism when she talks about his policies – to play to the fears of the lowest common denominator. she has ties to the alaska secessionist party, and she makes them and others want to take up arms against the federal government; then she acts all innocent – sort of – while still coming off as condescending and intolerant in a youtube video.
in short, she makes some people believe that liberals have authoritarian designs which must be repelled with armed insurrection. and you know it.
sarah palin? not only no, but hell no.
January 21, 2011 at 6:14 pm #714031
JoBParticipantHMCRich…
LOL… jealous of Sarah?
i don’t think so.
Mean?
hey.. she is the one who chose to quit her job as governor to put herself in the public spotlight.
She chose to make a public comment in the wake of the Tucson shootings that was .. well.. wanting in content.
She chose to play the poor me everyone is out to get me card when called on the lack of actual content in her comments…
This is the woman you want to run for a national political office?
If you really believed this
“You are being judgemental and condescending. You are intolerant of outside opinions. You are bullying in your comments and this group think is harmful and hateful. You are attacking a person just for defending herself.”
you would have defended Hilary when the right was making Sarah bashing look like child’s play.
the poor Sarah card doesn’t play here.
She wants to play with the big girls
she can take her licks with the girls.
redblack got it right //
“sarah palin is one of the least tolerant people in america. she belittles, berates, and scorns liberals. she even talks down to her own supporters like they’re children.”
January 23, 2011 at 8:30 am #714032
HMC RichParticipantNope, I used the perceived rhetoric of the left. The victim mentality. You fell for it and couldn’t resist responding.
Redblack, stop trying to think for me. I can’t read your mind. And you are wrong again about me. No, I don’t hate Jimmy Carter. Not a fan. Think he is wrong on a few issues. Even voted for him once.
You see, although I believe he made some huge mistakes on certain issues, I still respect him as a person. Civility is a choice and you have not been able to give one value added comment in this thread and have used the tired incendiary language to keep making your point that SP is stupid, dumb, lame, idiotic, less than human, bitch or something to that effect.
I purposely made the first paragraph of post 60 to illicit responses to see how negative views can get someones goat.
Sarah Palin is just a person. She will not be elected President but she is a (un)popular political person, positive and negative, and elicits thoughts and responses when she opens her mouth. The more the left pays attention to her the less they pay to some other person who will be the Republican nominee.
Remember too. Mrs. Clinton chose to get into politics. Hillary took way too much s*&( from the right, but during the last election she was complaining about the untrue and demeaning comments from the Obama campaign. Even she said FOX News treated her more fairly than some in the lamestream media. Republicans can be hard on a Democratic candidate but when Dem goes at Dem it is even more of a fight.
Redblack, I actually respect your posts because (civility alert) you take no prisoners, take no quarter and give none. I too get riled up by these posts sometimes.
JoB, another way to put Redblacks statement ateh the end of your post is that “Sarah Palin is a passionate and tireless advocate for family values, free speech who promotes Liberty for the individual, through political discourse and opinion”.
Now is that spin or what?
But to say she just jumped in. No, reality check. She, Rush, and others were brought into this by others trying to score political hate points against the right. I know you don’t believe it but being wrong is allowed. Good thing for you guys. (sheepish smile, not believing what I wrote).
No, I would not have defended Hillary as much. She promotes the progressive agenda which I do not support. But I admire her for being tough and intelligent. Bill had the charisma but I believe she was the better politician. I have made fun of her for certain speeches and stylistic choices, like I make fun of BHO’s prompter use. She would have been President if Obama had not run and his campaign had not savaged her.
Good Night. I hope you dream and have nightmares of Todd and Sarah Palin. You might even see them at a picnic with Michelle Bachmann and Jim DeMint in your nightmare. Not really, but I can dream.
January 23, 2011 at 4:30 pm #714033
redblackParticipantdude, that’s why i said, “probably hated carter.” most conservatives blame carter for all of the ills of the late 20th century and canonize reagan for pulling us from the brink of socialism.
live and learn.
if you’re not willing to acknowledge sarah palin’s condescension, disrespect, and intolerance toward liberals, that’s not my problem. but i really wish you would acknowledge her poking the gun nuts with her anti-government sentiments.
when i say i hate reagan, bush, bush, clinton, etc. it’s because i hate the fact that they imposed policies that i believe ruined this country. they said and did things that caused my fellow americans to turn and call me and other union employees lazy. did i cry about it? no. i picked up a proverbial baseball bat and started swinging.
Civility is a choice and you have not been able to give one value added comment in this thread and have used the tired incendiary language to keep making your point that SP is stupid, dumb, lame, idiotic, less than human, bitch or something to that effect.
i respect you as a person, rich. you’re willing to walk into a forum that has been overrun by liberals and give it the old college try.
sarah palin? no respect. and here’s what makes her appear condescending and intolerant: she hides behind inaccurate talking points; she’s dismissive; she insinuates that a democratically-elected president and the 211th congress are/were somehow taking america down the road to soviet-style socialism; she intimates that just because one doesn’t have business experience, one isn’t fit to lead; she accuses corporate media of being liberal.
should i go on? i’m telling you why i despise sarah palin, and i have been for the past few posts. see? it’s not just because i think she’s stupid.
Republicans can be hard on a Democratic candidate but when Dem goes at Dem it is even more of a fight.
evidently dems aren’t allowed to be hard on your sweetie, sarah, though. she chose to respond to the “attacks from the left” the way she did, and she’s suffering the consequences politically. she’s no shrinking violet, and she certainly can’t claim to be a victim after all of the mud she’s slung. in my opinion, if she wants to come out on top of this fight, she should decry the gun rhetoric and quit egging on the insurrectionist gun nuts. but that would be cutting her own throat, wouldn’t it?
but if she were to handle this correctly and not like a petulant brat, it might be the first time she actually shows any leadership skills. i doubt she will. but (here’s a shocker!) i could be wrong!
and, btw, when dems attack dems, it’s because we actually have some sense (however false) of control within our party. DNC leadership – and republicans – told us hillary was our de facto nominee in ’08. we, the rank and file, told the moneyed status quo, “no, she isn’t.”
to me, hillary was another conservadem/republican lite. obama came off as something different. like i said, live and learn. but at least we tried to change our party for the better.
i’m still waiting for republicans to change their party for the better and stop giving political cover to the gun nuts.
bottom line/bigger picture, rich: our two parties have been going at it for generations. some generalizations are unfair, but most of them hold, as they have for a long time. in my opinion, the modern republican party has left you behind and to the left of center.
come to think of it, the democratic party has done the same thing to me. but, kind of like the tea party, there’s a sense among liberals and progressives that we can keep trying to pull it back to where it needs to be.
January 23, 2011 at 5:38 pm #714034
JoBParticipantHMCRich…
that “dems attacking dems” thing you speak of…
most of the time that is us holding our party accountable…
something republicans have lost the will to do.
January 24, 2011 at 2:11 am #714035
dawsonctParticipantHow can someone be a promoter of family values, when the values she posses are not the same as the values MY family carry? In fact, much of what SHE considers of high value are completely antithetical to the values I was raised with. Suggesting you are the arbiter of morality and ethics seems pretty effing arrogant.
I thought Repubs were all about NOT telling other people how to live.
(Enlightened folks, I know it’s just ultra-conservative rhetoric, but I am always trying to get an intelligible response. No luck yet, I’ll keep trying)
January 25, 2011 at 8:59 am #714036
HMC RichParticipantRedblack, when you cut to the chase and stop the talking points I certainly understand your posts and I am glad for the point of view.
JoB is exercising thoughts using Quantum Mechanics which sometimes amuses or irritates me.
Dawsonct, your tone is what challenges me. If you were raised thinking red raspberries were best and I was raised thinking gold raspberries were best, who am I to try to tell you otherwise. But why should I let you try to convince me that I am wrong if you will not accept that you may not be correct either? Not that I really care, but to an extent we must since these posts get fairly intense.
Nope, I find it funny that a few months before the Loughner shooting I called for a bit more civility and was ignored by many. Then when a horrible incident happens and I find a renewed call for civility, I kind of do a double take. But then I see the snarky remarks about the right, of which I am part of, and decide not to take it lying down.
I don’t need to defend SP. But I will not stand by and let a post go viral without a little input from my side of the aisle if I think it is necessary.
But, I will say this. Many Republicans prefer to not get involved in certain issues and alot would rather be left alone, but others are going to speak out against or for certain issues. Number 1 is abortion. It isn’t going to change. I do have a feeling that eventually, but it will take time, that gay marriage, first from metropolitan Republicans and then eventually in the flyover states will be marginally accepted. But it is going to be a long time yet which is sad.
As far as parties fighting within themselves, all parties evolve. Don’t be so arrogant, but you can’t help it EITHER.
January 25, 2011 at 3:17 pm #714037
redblackParticipantmy point is simply that everyone is ignoring the elephant in the room (no pun intended) and pretending that the “tea party” – and the larger republican party – isn’t where the insurrectionist gun nuts go to hide. and sarah palin drops that little wink and eggs them on.
January 25, 2011 at 7:17 pm #714038
JoBParticipantHMCRich…
no quantum mechanics
i don’t need no stinking formula to associate one idea with another ;->
your raspberry analogy breaks down on one point…
the word choice…
if you choose to eat one kind of raspberries over another it won’t affect me…
unless of course your choice becomes the only choice…
which is what is happening right now in politics…
When the Repbulicans win they think they should run the show…
in this case the nation..
When they lose..they still think they should run the show…
Winner take all
Loser obstruct all?
Where does that leave the nation?
January 25, 2011 at 9:00 pm #714039
HMC RichParticipantJoB, like the Republicans had a seat at the table the last two years? Right.
Give me a break. This is where both parties do the same thing.
I don’t see Harry Reid bowing to the pressure of the House. It is just factional politics. Your side is just as bad as mine.
Your answer sounds like sour grapes instead of sour raspberries.
Have a nice day.
January 25, 2011 at 10:57 pm #714040
JoBParticipantHMCRich…
ROFLOL…
how many times does the republican party have to keep a measure from coming to a vote on the floor of the house or senate to have a seat at the table?
If they are offered a seat and refuse to sit in it..
whose choice is that?
Honestly rich..
there weren’t any democrats holding a gun to the head of either republican minority leader when they vowed to shut the business of the congress … our nation’s business … down until they once again controlled the agenda.
they set a new record for filibuster…
pretty much without ever bothering to hold the floor…
and my “side” is as bad as yours?
It’s the nation’s business Rich…
not the democratic party’s business
or the republican party’s business
but the nation’s business.
Once they are elected we pretty much expect them to get to it…
I can’t speak for every democrat but the last email i sent to my elected representative in the House didn’t tell him that he was off the hook for the next couple of sessions because republicans had the majority…
It didn’t tell him that his job was to make sure that nothing got done either.
It might be enough for you that your guys refuse to play if they can’t control the ball…
but it just plain doesn’t work for me.
January 25, 2011 at 10:58 pm #714041
hooper1961Memberboth parties can shove it; a new party is needed to legislate from the middle.
January 25, 2011 at 11:30 pm #714042
JoBParticipanthooper 1961…
LOL… and you see yourself as that middle?
the policies of the democratic party are further right today than those of the republican party were a couple of decades ago.
too many people drinking the kool-aid.

hooper1961Memberi am an independent voter and find both parties pandering to the extremes.
