I’ve recently taken on yet another huge project: removing the crappy old aluminum siding from my house and restoring the original cedar. The replacement windows were put in at some point after the aluminum, and aren’t even screwed into studs – they’re screwed into the butt ends of the siding. I think they need to be reset inward, screwed into studs, and properly sealed. Anyone have experience with this, or have a cheap helper to recommend? Money is a problem. A big one (as in, there ain’t none – which is why a 63 yo woman is doing it herself).
The good news is that this tiny house was once a detailed little Craftsman bungalow, complete with brackets, exposed rafter tails, and non-rotted cedar channel siding with lovely deep shadow lines. It’s rather exciting to peel off the trailer park layer to expose long hidden architectural secrets! Some of them are difficult to interpret; I’d love to be able to consult with old house buffs, especially those familiar with Craftsman and period details…
