pupsarebestParticipantApologies in advance if this topic has been addressed before, however….
I have quite a collection of unusable clothing (tee-shirts/jeans/socks/etc.) and more than enough in my own rag-bag.
Where can one donate unusable clothes/textiles for responsible recycling?
I do NOT want to throw these items in the trash/landfill.
Thanks to anyone with info regarding this question! :)

BreezyParticipantAs a Girl Scout leader, I once toured the San Diego Salvation Army facility and learned that one of the things they do is bundle unusable clothing and sell the block of cloth. Nothing goes to waste in that place! Check with our local collection agency and ask if they do the same.

Seattle TrashMemberI know you can send them to Goodwill, and they will either sort for textile recycling vs. reselling OR you can label the bag “rags” and it will go to textile recycling. Great way to keep them out of the landfill.
While we’re on the subject, check out the new textile recycling boxes in some SF apartments, designed by Frog design and it looks like Goodwill is managing the pick up. http://www.ecouterre.com/goodwill-san-francisco-launches-worlds-first-tech-enabled-textile-recycling-bin/

SunfrogMemberA group I belong to (Seattle Families of Multiples, supports families with twins or triplets) is having a fundraiser Fri & Sat at our sale in Shoreline to collect textiles through “Clothes for a Cause”. You can donate textiles in any condition (as long as they are dry and in a plastic bag). Our club gets paid per pound and they recycle (or sell) whatever we collect. We have quite a few West Seattle members as well as members throughout Seattle.
I would LOVE to pick up your stuff for you, if you would like to donate, but it will need to be tomorrow sometime… My name is Kristin and my email address is sunfrog@chinacat.org. Thanks for considering!

renaissanceredParticipantall the thrift stores will bale and ship off the unwearable clothing items, they will be recycled for sure. Nothing gets tossed at Goodwill or Value Village.
Also, posting free rag bags on CL or WS Blog are other good ways. House Cleaners, mechanics and other folks will gladly use rags in shops, etc.
I’d rather use a washable rag for housekeeping than a paper towel. Reduce, reuse, recylce, repurpose.
