Hello west seattleites!!! I’m needing some recommendations on places here in washington (within 2-3 hours from Seattle) to go on a family trip (3-4 days) this summer. I’m looking for a house or cabin that can house 10-15+ people . I’ve kinda looked around ocean shores etc… But I’m open for other recommendations. Thanks in advance :)

We LOVE Lake Chelan in Eastern WA. Only about 3.5 hours and the perfect family summer vacation. Search vrbo.com or airbnb.com for lodging options. We usually rent a house at Wapato Point.

San Juans and Lake Chelan are both great suggestions. I will never return to Ocean Shores (a.k.a. Open Sores) since they allow idiots to drive on the sand.

Check out the Rialto Beach House, Forks Wa. We stayed there a couple of years ago. Close to coastal beaches and Hoh Rain Forest. It is isolated at the end of a road with a couple of residences. It is a 2 bedroom cabin however there is a large loft that can sleep many. Small bathroom with sink and toilet. Main floor 1 bedroom and full bath. I recall a double bed and single bed in the loft. We threw down air mattresses as well. We went for Thanksgiving and cooked up the meal. Wood stove for heat. Only drawback was windows needed shades. I felt a little creeped out but we had four guys on board and 5 of us girls. They did ask for us to be conservative with the water, septic system. But very peaceful. Large cabin porch to enjoy that morning java.

Several of the state parks have vacation houses to rent. Not very expensive and of course the setting can’t be beat. My personal favorite is Fort Flagler. Go to the WA State Parks website and look up vacation houses.

From my experience – for that length of time – you can’t beat Whidbey Island (South end). Reasonable travel times (there will be a ferry wait, but the ride is pretty – you can even “drive around” the top of the island and visit Deception Pass either coming or going). Great beach time and nice small town of Langley to do some shopping or dining. Best beaches are Mutiny Bay (sugar sand) and Useless Bay (sand/rocks and logs) as they both face west and maximize your evening sun! Mutiny is a deep water bay so no tide flats whereas Useless Bay has a VERY low tide (up to 3/4 mile) for tons of exploring.

Maxwelton Beach would be next on my list, but it is on a fairly well-traveled road so lots of traffic (relative to the other two which are dead end roads). Bells Beach (near Langley/facing northeast is a distant fourth but still very nice!

    Plenty of rental options too.

I agree with Smitty that Whidbey Island is a great choice . My extended family rented a place found on VRBO and it was perfect with a big gathering area, beautiful beach, nice grassy backyard. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Here is the listing http://www.vrbo.com/228662 for the place we stayed. It states it is for 8 people but we had about 12. The location is in Clinton which is near the ferry.
