LaurellaMemberI looked at other requests and got some leads, but our need seems to fall in between basic garden tasks and true landscaping.
We are interested in replacing our lawn with an alternative such as moss, clover, eco-lawn, etc. We also need to level the front lawn. (And we have a dead tree that we need removed).
Realistically, we’re not going to do the manual labor for this ourselves.
Anyone have recommendations?

AnonymousInactiveI haven’t used these guys but a friend recommended them to me, so here goes (The rest of this is from her, not me):
My local tip is Casa Latina, it’s a day labor place, but they are a non profit who helps out immigrants/migrant workers in the area

I hired a dude for a day to weed these insane giant rocks (sound familiar?) and it was the best $$ I ever spent. I didn’t think he’d get anywhere near done, but he finished and moved on to other parts of the yard!
when i hired they suggested a hrly rate between 9-11/ hr, and it looks like they ask for 12 and over depending, but really for the tough stuff, it’s SO worth it to hire doods……

greenthumbMemberHave you considered a low maintenance alternative such as artificial lawn? Grass isn’t really considered a habitat for animals anyways, and it is a haven for bugs, moles, and other rodents. A friend of mine put in an artificial turf lawn and now they are able to spend much more time gardening and tending to their flower beds. Plus, they were able to discontinue their lawn care service. They used a local company, you can find them at http://www.advantagegolfgreens.com. They install synthetic turf lawns and golf greens.

beachdrivegirlParticipantI would recommend Phil @ Northwest Classics based out of Bellevue. We recently tore out a large chunk of our yard, Phil came in flattened it, put some pavers down, and landscaped (he grows his own plants.) They were timely, professional, and affordable I would highly recommend their company.

MargLMemberA friend of mine is a Garden Coach and does a lot of work helping people do stuff like this. She’s up in North Seattle but does work all around the area.
A garden coach can help you make a plan, budget, line up folks to do work or just make suggestions.

Here’s a little article about garden coaches that ran in PacificNW magazine recently.

AlkiRagdollParticipantIf you are looking for a contractor – I would recommend Bob Banke & Associates. He is a landscaper. I have used him for at least 13 years(does regular clean ups on lawn). He was a WS until recently, but does lots of work here. Small crew — Bob and 2-3 guys, reasonable rates. (206) 779-5941
