DuskyvioletParticipantLast night was mine and my husband’s third or fourth time at the Sardine Kitchen. The food just keeps getting better and last night my husband had the burger. THE BURGER!! It was fantastic. Cooked a perfect medium, great bun, very flavorful and served with lovely, crispy frites. They also have a wonderful cocktail list that is inventive without being intimidating. Service was also wonderful.
We don’t go out for dinner much so I really appreciate a flavorful meal and great service.
It is a welcome addition to West Seattle.

squareeyesParticipantAgreed. We’ve been five or six times and are happier and happier with the fare each time. For those who wonder, they’ve backed off a fair bit from being sardine-centric which absolutely broadens the appeal.
And yes, that burger was fantastic, as were the house made pickles that came with.

rwParticipantI’ve been twice and still haven’t sampled one of the sardine dishes. Damn. I need to get over there and make up for the omission. Well prepared fresh sardines are ambrosia.

addParticipantHow funny, I was going to post a comment about my current 3 favorite restaurants in WS, based on recent dining experiences, and West City Kitchen was one of them! (The other two are Duos and Blackboard Bistro.)
We’ve been to West City Kitchen twice in the past few weeks and each time the experience was fabulous — food, drinks, service, overall vibe. Love that place! (But I agree with Urban Fabulous … don’t tell anyone.)

c@lbobMemberI agree with the comments above. Many of the WS eating spots we enjoyed are either gone (the previous occupant of the building WestCity now occupies, for one) or they’ve lost their appeal (no comment.)
Everything we ordered was outstanding. The Cosmo and Rhubarb Manhattan got us started, delicious. The sardine appetizer we were told, is made with canned sardines, but they were really good, and the Calabrian chili and caper relish complimented the fish wonderfully. I liked the squash risotto better than Charla did, but she agreed it was good. I had the short rib ragu on handkerchief pasta, and I have found the way to eat short ribs – boneless in a delicious sauce. Charla had salmon with penne/ziti.
We decided that what we liked about all the food was it was subtle, and we mean that is a good way – well seasoned, tasty, but not slamming your mouth.
The staff was helpful, welcoming and friendly. We had a wonderful evening.

PLSParticipantI have to echo the rave here – we are so glad West City Kitchen came to the neighborhood. We’ve been there maybe ten+ times now, twice in the last month, and it’s been solid every single time. We’ve had whole family dinners, date nights and just daddy-daughter time there and they’ve always been welcoming and cheerful.
Saturday night the food was very good and they took great care of the special birthday party we were having. The sausage stuffed calamari was great as usual (one of our favorite dishes), as were the grilled sardines. I had the halibut, just as I did the previous visit, and it was perfect again. And the beet and spinach salad was terrific – my 7 year old gobbled the beets up! We topped it off with a very nice chocolate “dolci” and some ice cream.
Another nice aspect is the adult beverages. The cocktails are creative and well served, and the wine list is very solid and reasonably priced.
This restaurant is truly a winner and I imagine that front patio will be sought after seating very soon. Do yourself a favor and get in there. They have a great $28 menu up for Restaurant Week right now – we may go back just for that.

WSBKeymasterIf you have something to say about this or any local restaurant, I invite you to also post it as a mini-review on the restaurant’s page in our Restaurant Guide (see the tab atop all WSB pages) … thanks! – Tracy

rwParticipantFor the record,we were there recently and I was really looking forward to trying one of their sardine dishes. They only had the appetizer that night, and as a previous reviewer indicated the sardines were canned and not fresh. The server told me that they obtain fresh sardines when they can, so I opted to wait. I’ve had fresh sardines in Italy and they were out of sight. I elected to wait for another visit. With or without fresh sardines, West City Kitchens (I think they dropped Sardine from their name) is a winner.
