We love Sub Shop #9 on California Ave.! Watching the owner meticulous slice the bread, cheese and meat to consistently build a fresh delicious sub sandwhich is like watching a tightly choreographed dance. Every sandwhich is given the exact same treatment, every movement deliberate and precise. Our family highly recommends the #1 with the works (light on the onions). yum

Yay for #1….I like mine with all of what they have, even lots of onions…and oil and vinegar, salt and pepper. Putting mayo and mustard on a sub is heresy to an east coaster…at least to this one :)

Full boat is saved for when one is REALLY craving – lol…

Oh no WSMom…You just gave away the best kept lunch secret in WS! :) I have been going to the Sub Shop (NOT Subway mind you) since my HS days many years ago, and they consistently have the most delicious freshmade sandwiches ever! My mouth is watering just thinking about them…yumm!

Where is this located on Calif Ave.?

Do they have hot sandwiches, also. And soup?

Sub Shop #9 is located a block up from Morgan on Graham and California. I appreciate watching the owner make each sandwich with each movement precisely choregraphed, kind of a zen master of sandwich making.

I don’t think there’s hot soup or hot sandwiches, I’ve only ordered the subs.

Curiously, I cannot eat a sub from Subway because the chemicals used on the lettuce taste horrible to me. I must be sensitive to them, because I can smell the lettuce chemicals the minute I walk into a Subway. Has anyone else had this experience?

Did you catch my Beatles’s reference??? It’s subtle…hehehe

WSMom — I must agree on the Subway thing…. tried it once and only once years ago and thought the bread tasted just like Playdough!! Yes, I admit, I ate Playdough as a kid on purpose, both the real stuff and the wholemade stuff my mom used to make. Needless to say, NOT something I want to taste as an adult though.

    Cheers #9!!! Love it, too.

I hadn’t been there in years, and this thread changed my mind – I went in for lunch today. 6″ Turkey & Genoa Salami, no mayo. YUM! It was really good, and their bread is a billion times better than Subway. Thanks WSMom! :)

I’ve always wondered about that place. I never see anyone in it, and it always reminded me an old Carvel (ice cream chain I grew up with back east). I’ll have to give them a try.

As long as they have BACON I’m sure it will be delicious!

Thanks for the complement of Edtard….kinda a sad story posted in an older thread…. :(

I’ve driven by that place a thousand times and never gone in. Will have to give it a try! Subway is UGH.

Interesting. We will have to try this. We were both a bit disappointed with Great Harvest sandwiches, the bread alone is good but the sandwiches lacked enough flavor. I thought I was one of few, but Subway makes me ill after eating it. I have always thought it might be chemicals on the veggies, and above someone says the same.
