I want to shout a rave for the principal of West Seattle High School.

Last week I sent him an e-mail about a situation that was most disturbing to me. My daughter had been robbed after getting off of a metro bus. She had been followed after transferring in White Center. I work a long way from West Seattle and transportation home is often dependent on a metro bus ride. To make matters worse, we found the thieves were still riding on the same bus. The police man that we filed a report with said the chances of these people being caught was slim. Within a few hours of my first e-mail principal Bruce Bivins had arranged for a yellow bus to take my daughter to and from school and contacted Metro Police. I received a call from a transit police woman; they said they were going to see if this bus had a camera, hopefully they will be able to see these people. Principal Bruce Bivins is a most impressive and effective administrator. My heartfelt thanks go out to him.

That’s horrible for your daughter and terrific he was so responsive! I didn’t know SPS yellow busses transported across the city line. Do you live out of district then?

Just realized that she might have one of those routes that requires her to go beyond her destination and double back. ugh. I know there are some Sealth students that if they take Metro, they have to go downtown and change busses to come back to the north end of WS. Not so handy.

    What are you testing?

I live in Highland Park. To get to our neighborhood from WSHS one must take two buses, one route is through White Center and then head North to Highland Park. Having students on the Metro is scary, there are a lot of bad guys out there. And no matter what neighborhood one lives in doesn’t not keep the bad guys away. I’m just saying parents be warned.

Thank you so much Principal Bivins for taking swift action and listening to a worried parent.
