Huge rave for the woman who risked all potential road rage wrath to stop and a retrieve a dog running on Admiral Way this evening around 4:30. Despite having two kids on their way to soccer practice and a dog of her own in the vehicle, she stopped to leash this unknown pet.

I slowed and put on hazard lights but was not in a lane allowing me to stop and help immediately. Drivers behind honked, perhaps not knowing that a dog was headed, in the road, eastbound on Admiral in traffic. She stopped anyway and kept this dog from harm.

I came back around and was able to hold the dog so this exceptional woman could get to practice, and the dog’s owner was fantastically responsive to a call about her runaway.

It was an honor to see people doing the right thing on both ends of what could have gone very badly for one delightful dog.

KUDO’s I got hit(van) trying to rescue a dog today. Then the other day I needed a piece of chicken to get another dog in my van and the store owner said don’t hurt yourself. I said I don’t care about me I need to rescue the dog. I got that dog too and safely at home.

Raves all around. And, Pam, hope you weren’t hurt too badly today. I will e-mail.

Irukandji..thank you for what you did. And as far as the people who were impatient and honking their horns…so what, let them. They’ll be irritated for a bit, but you’ll probably not encounter them again, so what does it matter. My daughter kept telling me that during rush hour going to Bothell this evening, 520 to 405, to who knows where – lol. Charla knows that I never, ever leave the island, and this was an adventure. The daughter kept telling me that those people tailgating me didn’t matter, that if they get impatient enough they’ll go around, and I’ll never see them again :)

Jan’s right — she never leaves the island unless I make her :-)

We have a wonderful sweet cat who was rescued as a kitten on I5 downtown by a colleague at work. He saw this tiny fluffball, stopped, turned out emergency lights, got out, picked her up and brought her to work. Needless to say we fought over who got to keep her — I was his boss — I won :-)

The office posse named her Road Kill — couldn’t quite live with that, so she’s now officially Roada Katsky. People do care and do take risks and and that’s yet another good thing about being part of the human race.

the same people who were impatiently honking would be grateful if they only knew that the stopped car ahead of them kept them from a much longer delay… hitting a dog..

I’ve been in that same predicament. Once was on 405 in Bothell – argh!

People who get frustrated at traffic delays due to accidents – take a chill pill! I remind myself and my husband that there is someone up ahead who is having a FAR WORSE DAY than you are. Be grateful you are getting home in one piece! :)

Thanks Hammerhead for all the work that you do with animals. Heads up to all – Hammerhead could use some help defraying the costs of a neuter for a stray. Anyone wishing to help can PM her. She spends lots of her own money rescuing these animals and I know in these hard times a little donation will go a long way.

Mellaw..thanks for the nice thoughts about Pam. She works so hard at this, her passion…so, yes, if you can help her out, please do. She’s one of those unsung heroes in our community.

FYI – Two Homeward Pet initiatives. Homeward Pet is the only King County no-kill shelter. They have ties in West Seattle, but are based in Woodinville…

    1. Calendars are on sale. My husband took many of these photos and the calendars are great quality. All proceeds go towards their 2009 LOW-COST SPAY & NEUTER program: https://homewardpet.ejoinme.org/MyPages/2009CalendarHomewardPetAdoptionCenter/tabid/116780/Default.aspx

    2. Going to the Space Needle this holiday season? If you buy tix online, enter code TFA14 and $5 will go towards HP. If they send the most people to the Space Needle they can win $25K!

    :)
