As stated in earlier posts and circumstances under which an event might be a positive, but doing it under the guise of global warming awareness while making people drive that otherwise wouldn’t, is definitely a funny way to go about it.
I have hardly suffered the indignity of lolz, the moe you try and hijack this about other issues the more you prove my point.
Go ahead, please talk more about me rather than the issues. It seems the best you can do. You talk about me getting a life and having nothing else to do, but you didnt even come here with that. And you STILL keep coming back.
I never mentioned a conspiracy, never used the word. Is that really the best you can do? Really?
Im curious who the next one will be that cant talk about the post but instead try and make the issue about something else.

if the point is that you are inconvenienced by an event you don’t appreciate.. we got the point.
anyone living or working by any event that is attended by large numbers of people is negatively affected by that event.. whether they like the event or not.
Neither my husband or I attend Mariner games.. and would never choose to subsidize any professional sports team… yet his commute is negatively affected every time they play a home game…
oh well….
still time to pull on your big boy pants.. move your car and find something to do that day that makes you smile.

Go ahead, lets count how many more want to make it about me rather than the issue. Your making it way to easy to illustrate my point.
Most events have a positive impact on the local businesses, and are wanted by the community.
This does neither. I talked to 2 more neighbors this morning who bitched to me without knowing my feelings about it. They both mentioned what I said before, the results last year sucked, locals had to drive somewhere else when they normally wouldnt drive at all (wouldnt that help the environment if that is the real cause behind this event) and park in a space visitors would normally use meaning they go park on admiral or further away.
Big boy pants, mature statement. Howe about pulling your skirt up and sticking to the point. My frustration is how it affects more than just myself, and your too busy focusing on me to hear it.
But again, please prove me correct that you cant stay on topic and give me a few more witty one liners and really tell me how it is. You sure showed me! Lol, you deserve Nickels as your mayor with thinking like this.

bsmommaParticipantI get the irony about having an event about Global Warming and the No car thing yet making people that don’t regularly drive and don’t have off street parking start there car and drive it to a different place. I get it. I’m thinking that amount of CO2 being release in to the air is uncompareable to the 1000’s of cars that would normally drive by the beach on a hot sunny Sunday. I’d hope that any business that had a loss of money from last year has taken a pro-active approach to make some money thins year! It seems like it has been publicised more this year plus the 5K. That should bring alot more people down! Does anyone remember what the weather was last year for this event?

JanSParticipanton topic, tsunami…are you a member of the Alki Community Council? Do you go to the meetings and voice your opinion on a regular basis? Do the businesses that lost money, according to you, go to these meetings and bring up these issues? What positive steps have you taken? Using the excuse that there wasn’t much notice this year doesn’t quite make it. I knew months ago that this was going to happen, and obviously you were ticked off last year about it…so what action did you take besides just complaining in general? I’m just curious…

bsmommaParticipantAs a resident on Alki, knowing this is coming, plan ahead, prepare yourself. Every year I have to plan my daughters’ Birthday around the HiYu parade. It’s just part of living our life in West Seattle. I don’t mind because I know it’s going to happen. I don’t want to make this about you, tsunaminw, maybe tell your neighbors to give this one a chance. If it still sucks as bad as last year then maybe start a group with your neighbors and business owner friends to stop it from happening again next year!

So once again the mind-numbed robots who believe in junk science and global warming, and our worthless and ineffective mayor, have imposed on us another Seattle summer streets day this Sunday.
I wake up to find no parking signs up and down both sides of Alki letting us know that even when we own a property(rent or own shouldnt matter in this case though) that if we have street parking we cannot park at our home and have to drive somewhere for the day to park to allow bicycles and pedestrians to use the street.

We have a huge bike lane that we paid for, and a huge pedestrian path we paid for, which doesnt cross traffic and is unobstructed for miles.
Our cars pay for these streets, and yet this day the bike and walking paths aren’t good enough for these hippies and Obama groupies.
wow, so your implying that car registration and the measly car tax pays for all roads? wow I guess my property tax doesnt come into play at all. Unless a road is 100% toll funded cars pay for a very small percentage of their construction, this is called a subsidy
They have added enough bogus potpourri to the event telling us we get to meet our neighbors and all, but has anyone spoken to the businesses down here?
Last year I spoke to a 4 people I know who own prominent businesses here and they had the complaint that business was dead that day.
so wait, earlier you called this a plan of “mind-numbed robots” and now your envoking the acutal purpose of the car free day, so which one is it, global warming or meet your neighbors? Also, your statistical sample of 4 business is pretty much worthless. I know four people who say the earth is flat, does that make it true?
I also saw the punks above the tattoo shop screaming at a driver going home who lives locally(I know him) to get out of his car or they would break his windshield.
And the booths were as exciting as chewing on cardboard, leftovers from the patchouli stinking folklife festival and people who seemed to have been kicked out of the food court at the Puyallup fair.
did you *gasp* talk to the dudes at the tattoo shop and let them know the driver was local, or did you just let it simmer till you could feel abused on the WSB? You dont like hippies? who does? the point is to amble around and meet your neighbors, it sounds like you were too busy being offended and hating it all.
I plan to take a few long drives in my v8 the following week, let the car idle as long as possible before I go anywhere, buy lots of bottled water in tiny containers, and maybe even load up on my styrofoam, leave all the lights on at my home day and night for the next few weeks. If you want to be crazy and make others pay the price, I can play the same game.

tsunaminwMemberIt is an excuse when I travel overseas for months at a time only to return a month or so ago, which is also why my last posts were last summer.
As far as the Alki community council, it is on topic and I appreciate the suggestion and will be looking into it. Which means as much as you hate my posts you will get to deal with me even more,lol.
Vincent, if your going to take the time to go back and try to find contradictions, you can also find the answers to them as well since I addressed almost every point you attempt to make. If you arent going to bother to read everything, Im not going to waste time repeating myself any more than I already have.
And still, you fail to address why we need to let people walk and ride down the street when a perfectly good and expensive bike path and boardwalk exist right next to the street, something none of the other locations for this event have.
Or the fact that businesses complained about a loss of business, something they can afford even less right now.
As far as meeting your neighbors, I never mentioned it. But as long as you have, I met more neighbors in a week here than 8 years on the Eastside and 4 years in Belltown in a highrise where people ride the elevator together.
We already know many neighbors here, more than almost any other area because we are out enjoying it together.
These arent neighbors coming down as much as outsiders who will still have to drive here, and find that people like me will be parking where they normally would have so they will be forced to park on Admiral or worse.
Either way, I mentioned many things that would make this a positive event that works for everyone and will work on getting those ideas to the powers that be.
And if it was a parade, concert, or 5k event and not an event aimed at encouraging less driving it would make a helluva lot more sense.
This is doing something just for the sake of doing something, whether it does any real good or not.

Completely tieing up traffic.. including bus traffic through downtown Seattle … so that sports fans can go to or come from a game during the evening rush hour… doesn’t make much sense to me either…
But they do it year after year and it inconveniences those affected a lot more often than an annual car free day on one road.
this is an event. I get that you don’t like the event. i get that you think it is bogus to be so impacted by an event you don’t want to have anything to do with.
I get that.
So.. i will support you if you will do something about the Mariner traffic..
because i am really affected when my husband finally gets home from work after being stuck at a bus stop waiting for the traffic to clear.
What were those idiots in the planning dept thinking anyway?

tsunaminwMemberI do not underestimate the inconvenience, but I dont see a similarity at all.
Games bring money to the city and all businesses surrounding the stadium from restaurants to taxicabs. I am friends with the owners of a well known bar on Occidental(mentioned already, broken record here) and the survive specifically because of games. It is also downtown. If the issue is bus service and buses being full thats a metro issue not a mariners issue.
And again, broken record, they dont have a huge bike path and boardwalk right next to the street while they close the streets for walkers and bikers. Do you really need me to repeat all the other points to explain why these are not the same? It isnt even a residential area, yes you have some condos but I lived in Belltown and most people work downtown and either walk or bus even if they own a car. And they go to games, one of the reasons for moving there in the first place, it is expected.
Is it really that tough to see the difference?
