So I’m traveling south on 99 just south of downtown where two lanes merge into one. I turn my head and see a vehicle in my blind spot on the left. He doesn’t slow down even though we have to merge. I keep on at a safe and legal speed and suddenly see police lights flashing behind me. I quickly pull over and he passes, only to slow down right in front of me. I wait a bit to see what’s happening, but he continues to roll along at lower than speed limit. As I pass, a young white police officer looks over at me with the most arrogant look on his face I’ve ever seen. SEATTLE POLICE NEED MORE TRAINING.

Nobody in Seattle knows how to merge correctly.

Excuse me? I merged correctly. The police officer was being an ass.

I’m going to go out on a limb here, just hazarding a guess, really, but my suspicion is that the point is… (wait for it…) SEATTLE POLICE NEED MORE TRAINING.

And I’m going out on a limb here too…if this quote un quote Young White cop has been driving since he turned 16 he should know how to merge properly but for some reason he turned on his light why we have no idea and really did he give you an arrogant look??? it takes one to know one.

So you called the original poster arrogant and a liar, while deriding the original post as pointless?

    Damn you’re nasty.

I never called the OP a liar or that his post was pointless but as for the “arrogant face” to each their own on how it looked to them, it could be that the cop was having a bad day and the “look” was not aimed at the OP and did the OP give the cop a pleasant face when he passed him, I’m thinking no because he was upset with “what he did in the 1st place”? Just saying.
And to call me damn nasty pff… but you do have an endearing user name.

It’s better if the police car is in front of you, then behind you… If you know what I mean.

You KNEW the lane ended, why did YOU wait till the end to merge? The person traveling in the lane could have been courteous and let you merge, but he doesn’t HAVE to make speed adjustments for YOU to merge.
Back to first part, since YOU
waited to the end… Make’s you an aggressive driver and YOU know why the Police officer gave you that look.

All the messages are interesting. My take was the officer was in the lane that needed to merge, he put on his flashing lights to do so and once he did he turned them off and processed in the lane like everyone else. It is wrong use of flashing lights for own purpose. Next time take license plate or car number if one and report to city and police dept.. It was obvious not doing ” police work” like pulling someone over. Such a power move.

Yeah, it wasn’t quite clear to me who was merging into whose lane. If OP was merging to the left, they should be adjusting their own speed to match the flow of traffic, not expecting others to get out of their way.

Why difference does it make that he was white? Just curious..

How could I have merged when I was doing the speed limit? I was at least a half car length ahead of him. I would have had to speed up to merge.

The longer you wait to merge, the less likely the other driver is going to accommodate you.. First off you knew the lane was going to end, You should have merge a 1/4 mile back.., but you waited till the end. Which leaves you two choices..Speed up and merge in front or tap your brakes and merge behind the other car.. Just because you turn on the signal, doesn’t give you the right to move over. You’re the one merging, you need to make adjustments in your speed.

Graciano, that style of merging is not recommended by any experts–most who recommend zipper merging (a quick search on this will show several articles and sources as to why). This offends many people who take it personal rather than preferring the efficiency of the behavior (some who ride both lanes for several hundred feet so nobody can get “around” them, causing further congestion.) Merging near the point of the lanes joining eases congestion and is technically “correct” in the eyes of the experts. In addition, if the OP was to “merge” a 1/4 mile back, they wouldn’t have been a merge, it would have been a lane change.
As a side, I was once pulled over for going 58 in the right lane when an officer in the lane to my left was going 55 (in a 60). Received a verbal “questioning” on why I was going faster than an officer. Sometimes it is just about exerting power.

I’m guessing you are not telling the whole story. This might not have been a waste of everyone’s time if you didn’t have to mention ‘white cop’. Just saayyin

Myself was wondering too why the mention of skin color of the police.
May I ask to which lane were you merging from the right into left or vice versa?
