Schmitz Park DadParticipantI got badly ripped of by one of Orange Cab’s drivers on 7/27/2022.
Pick up location – SeaTac Airport
Drop off location – 11003 31st Avenue SW, Seattle, 98146Pickup time: 5:11 pm
Drop off time: 5:27 pm
Drive time: 16 minutes
Miles to destination: 9When the driver dropped me off, he asked if I could pay cash. I said I could, then he told me my fair was $52.50. At that point, I realized that he did not run his meter. I explained that the fare was much higher than I expected, especially since Uber was quoting $32 for the fare. He told me the fare was high due to gas prices. I thought this was an unusual response given he drove an electric Prius vehicle. It was also odd that he calculated such a precise amount without the use of a meter or a phone app. He then lowered the fare to $50, still exorbitant.
I know it is difficult operating in a market where Uber has a presence, so I try to try to support local taxi companies. Unfortunately, I was badly ripped off by this unethical driver while trying to support a local taxi company. Using Orange Cab’s website, I calculated that the fare should be as follows:
$2.60 Meter drop
$24.30 Distance ($2.70 x 9 miles)
———-
$26.90 Calculated fareI attempted to call Orange Cab a dozen times, using all phone numbers listed on their website. They do not answer these phones or allow leaving a message. I then started email contacts listed on their website and finally got a reply.
Unfortunately, I did not write down the taxi or license plate number, so I am out of luck. My bad. Warning, if you use this company, make sure the meter is used. If it is not, snap a photo of the taxi number, license plate, and driver so you can report the driver and hopefully recover losses if you get ripped off.
