Hello all, thinking of making an offer on a home in north Delridge–no kids yet but hope to start in next year. Any North Delridge parents that can give me specific Pros/Cons about the neighborhood for families? Thanks!

Hello! We moved from a junction-area apartment to the North Delridge area almost three years ago and it’s been wonderful. I love our new community.

PROS: Longfellow creek and trail! If you can even believe it, we didn’t know this natural area was right next door when we signed for our house. The creek runs right behind our house (that we knew) but the trail runs for miles north and south of us. A nature walk is only minutes away. My son loves the “neighbor ducks.” Also pro: affordability. Neighbors are great, we live by a guy who bought the home next to his childhood home, so there are lots of generations of Delridge residents on our street.

120 – My bus gets me to work downtown in 20 minutes or (often) less.

The library! It’s so close. We can walk to family story time.

The park at Delridge/Gennesse is great. It features a summer-time splash park and year-round skate park.

PHO AROMA. Some (me) say it’s the best pho in West Seattle.

CON: Depending on where you draw the line for “North Delridge” some areas don’t have sidewalks. Walking home on uneven terrain in the dark is not fun. I once wiped out while 9 months pregnant. I’d love to have sidewalks and a gutter, but I believe this is just a matter of time.

It’s technically a Food desert – There aren’t nearby grocery stores. This too, will be solved with time. There’s a co-op in the works. And I don’t find a drive or bus ride to White Center to be all that cumbersome.

Some people will say crime. However, I think we have a few, active bad apples in the neighborhood. I have not yet been personally affected by crime in Delridge. Car prowls are probably the most common crime so you may consider if the property has off-street parking.
