jego_misiaParticipantMy neighbors like to bump their music during the day, to levels that shake my apartment (I live above them). Someone please tell me that I can contact SPD about this & get them fined during the daytime hours, because I have exhausted my options with the apartment manager & the tenants keep playing their music excessively loud, I am tired of it.

jwwsParticipantjego,
From the Seattle City Noise Ordinance
Public Nuisance Noise
To file a complaint about public nuisance noises: horns or sirens, music, amplified sound, motor vehicles, or watercraft; call the Seattle Police Department’s non-emergency number at (206) 625-5011.

waterworldParticipantJego_misia: This is covered in the Seattle Municipal Code section 25.08. The law prohibits very loud music in residential areas during the day as well as at night. In addition to contacting the police and filing complaints with them, you should probably contact your landlord (the owner and the manager, if necessary) and submit written complaints, because the landlord is required to take action by law. If you take the time to review the whole chapter (some of it is complicated, but some of it is straightforward), you’ll see that there are ways to force the landlord to “abate” the problem by evicting the noisy people, and also that the police can take action directly against the residents who are blasting the music. The consequences range from small fines to gross misdemeanors.

jego_misiaParticipantfabulous, it took them 45 mins after the manager gave them a call to finally lower the volume, it has been a big issue since we moved into this unit in June & I am not going to tolerate it any longer. I think my hubby talked to another owner of a property management company and was told that after I submit 3 letters and the problem persists we will legally be able to break our lease agreement, and I am hoping it doesn’t come to that. I also fear retaliation, but if it does happen I will definitely be calling the cops & moving.
