New firewood thread

I have to get on with the firewood acquisition process so I have been looking around.

Most craigs list ads violate the WA state regulations on firewood and there have been several scam warnings about a disgruntled former employee offering unrealistic claims and prices via craigs list and other forums and using his former employers and a competitors phone number.

That does not mean all craigslist firewood sellers have problems. Several have web sites and post license numbers and promise an invoice in accordance with the law.

I would rather go with someone who can get a good recommendation from my friends and neighbors in WS

Does anyone have a reliable firewood seller referral to post? Licensed would be nice, but at least satisfying the legal requirements of an invoice with sellers name, buyers name and percentage of and types of wood sold is a requirement.

The news media is making more and more frantic sounding predictions for snow, ice and wind for this winter and I suspect the price of firewood will go up steeply as the month progresses.

If you know a firewood seller who would be willing to deliver half cords to multiple locations in WS, a pretty good sized order could be arraigned among all of us who responded to the last thread. I have a large fenced yard where fractional cord amounts (1/4 cord or less) could be dumped for pickup by those who don’t need a full or half cord.

Hi Ken: Also check with Seattle City Light to see if they’re replacing any telephone poles in your area. When the telephone pole in front of my house got replaced, they cut it up and stacked it in my yard for me. If they can give the pole away, they don’t have to mess with it.

I am finally reaching the end of the free wood I picked up alongside the road after the windstorm of 06 :)

I am also no longer able to go out and load logs and rounds (or cut and split them) since both my old van (gone to the junkyard) and my health have gone south.

The utilities in my neighborhood were put underground when Highpoint was rebuilt.

I hope you didn’t burn those telephone poles inside your house, they are treated with some nasty preservatives..ie poison, now they wrap them in plastic so the poison doesn’t leach into the ground.

I think it depends on the age of the pole. The one I was given was perfectly clean cedar and yes, fairly degraded which is why they were replacing it. I don’t think they would give someone the newer, toxic ones. ‘Course, I’ve been wrong before.

His ad is gone from craigslist, which probably means the rest of this seasons wood is spoken for… but

Brad Effenburger with Arbormagic Tree Service delivered a fine cord of wood stove length hardwood (mostly maple) to my backyard yesterday.

Delivery was via long bed pickup with cover and the wood was stacked tight right up to the roof of the cover. Looks like a fat cord to me but I will be stacking it today into my cord size rack to be sure :)

My wood rack is 10 x 4 and it is filled to the top and a hand cart full left over. Even accounting for a 10 year old helping stack that’s a 110% cord.
