JoBParticipantWalfredo,
it isn’t the far right’s reaction to Sarah Palin that frightens me so much… but the concerted and coordinated effort to hide that extremism behind misrepresentation.
The more Sarah Palin’s hypocrisy is revealed, the more a certain class of people are going to love her.
This is why i think it’s important to not put so much effort into her credibility and get back to ..it’s the economy…it’s the war… it’s lack of service for your tax dollar…it’s rampant corruption (even John Mccain says so)… and last but not least.. remember Newt and his new republicans.. look where that got us. We’ll get more of the same with John McCain.

GenHillOneParticipantI know that this is somewhere in cyberspace, but I’m guessing one of you brilliant folks will know this…what are the evangelical Christian numbers? As in how many are there?
I’m sorry I can’t reference it (I think it was CNN Headline), but there was a reporter that sat with a half dozen evang. Christians in Florida. After watching Palin speak, he asked them who was behind McCain before the Palin pick – no hands. Then he asked them who was behind McCain after Palin pick – all but one. She sited the issue of choosing to bring her daughter’s situation into the spotlight. I don’t recall that they ever said that they would have voted for Obama before the Palin pick, but their McCain support definitely increased.
So outside of those six, in a swing state no less, what kind of numbers are we talking about?

walfredoMemberGenHill- its an interesting question. How George Bush won in 2004, was a record turnout of his base. It is smaller then the democratic base, but when energized has proven to be more dependable.
The good news in Florida, is actually Palin’s extreme radical views about Jews could actually hurt the McCain ticket. They are hoping Lieberman’s support makes up for this. Palin attended a Jews for Jesus seminar targeting saving the lost Jewish souls w/ the Evangelical message this year… They also have conferences for curing homosexuals at her church…

JoBParticipantCBS’s estimate in 2004
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/02/05/60minutes/main598218.shtml
from another source… in 2003
http://www.publiceye.org/magazine/v17n2/evangelical-demographics.html
wikipedia wades in.. with more current numbers
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelicalism
an interesting side note to this is that in a lateline interview, membrs of the church McCain and Obama spoke at stated that you couldn’t walk away from that presentation with any doubt that Obama is a fellow follower of christ, that Obama clearly in more conversant with his religion than John McCain.. and that they would still vote for McCain because he is republican..
go figure.

JenVMemberBabs (Bah-bra! She’s like BUTTAH!) on the McCain choice for veep:
“I believe John McCain chose Gov. Palin because he truly believes that women who supported Hillary — an experienced, brilliant, life-long public servant — would vote for him because his Vice President has two x chromosomes. McCain’s selection of Governor Palin is a transparent and irresponsible decision all in the name of trying to win this election. John McCain has served this country. No one in this election is denying him that. But his selection of Governor Palin has demonstrated that he is willing to put his desperation to win this election above the welfare of the American people.”

JanSParticipantand now, as the HuffPo calls it, her “first gaffe”

JenVMemberso, not only does she not know what the office of VP even entails: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/29/sarah-palin-what-exactly_n_122514.html , she’s completely stupid about the economy. NICE.

charlabobParticipantAll evangelicals are not “the Christian right.” That’s one of the exciting-if-it-weren’t-so-damned-important” things about this campaign. In 2004 Obama began the Democratic Party’s attempt to reclaim our share of observant Christians. :-)

WSMomParticipantIsn’t it a gaffe when a knowledgable person mispeaks. I would say that this is Ms. Palin giving us a hint of the depth of her understanding (or lack of) of economic issues.

JoBParticipantone of the sources cited above says that about 25% of evangelicals are democrats.
