miwsParticipantI’m up in Highland Park/S. Delridge, going on 20 months now.
In that time, it seems the most common “usual” time has been, maybe, between 11:00 am-1:00 pm, and occasionally maybe a little after 2:00 pm.
On a few occasions, lately, it has come at a much later time, like 5:00, or so, with it being as late as maybe 7:00-8:00 pm, once or twice.
Presumably, it’s due to a new/sub Carrier, that is not familiar with the route, or perhaps, they are already covering their regular route, and all/part of another?
One time, in about the last month-ish, I was just getting back Home mid-late afternoon, and met the Carrier out on the sidewalk, trying to locate the addresses of our buildings.
Another time, rather recently, there was a Carrier, and apparently a Trainer/Supervisor, delivering the mail, a bit later than usual, IIRC.

berthaParticipantJust saw an article about this. The PO is operating with massive losses and is increasing route sizes and not replacing carriers as they retire. They are aware that carriers can no longer meet the 5:00 p.m. deadline for mail delivery. I don’t understand why Congress won’t let them eliminate Saturday delivery and decrease the operating losses.

mojiMemberLast Sunday (yes, SUNDAY) I saw a carrier I didn’t recognize in our HP neighborhood. My first thought was “Someone’s stolen a mail truck and is out here stealing our mail!” But then I saw he was actually putting stuff IN the boxes :)

PatrickKeymasterOur mail guy said it’s prime vacation season. In fact, he said we won’t see him again until after Labor Day.

MnoperiodMemberMoji, the USPS has started Sunday package delivery. This is why Amazon now offers Sunday delivery. So maybe that’s what you saw?

seaopgalParticipantYou can go to the post office for your zip and ask the supervisor about the late delivery. I’ve done this several times (Junction PO) when problems (someone else’s prescription meds delivered to our house, our mail going to neighbor) and they’ve been helpful: looked up the route, told me the issue (substitute carrier), and make a note to pass on the complaint. If late delivery has been going on for longer than a couple of weeks, I would mention it.

trickycooljParticipantI can confirm the Sunday delivery, was shocked to see my Amazon Prime package waiting in the box on Sunday after returning from a PDX trip. Ordered Friday expected it Monday per usual. Looks like the USPS is finding some alternative revenue streams.
I’m in High Point and I know we have a handful of mail carriers. We saw them delivering after 7:30 on Night Out last week too. I know the USPS is trying to cut costs everywhere but I’m wondering when the other shoe is going to drop, I don’t generally have anything time critical but I would hate to be waiting for something like medication! (My insurance is trying so hard to get me to use their mail order service to get a 90 day supply and this is exactly why I put up with 30 day trips to the pharmacy.)

KatherineLParticipantMy normal mail delivery has been around 3:00 for months. Then suddenly the last couple of days it got here at 6:30.
Today it came at 11 AM. I can only guess they’re using temps.

webshafParticipantOn August 23, the routes are being redrawn…you may end up with a new carrier, different time…both or neither! New routes are being created to make up for the huge routes that were formed in January. If you are on a new route that is being created, you will get a ‘regular’ carrier around the beginning of October. Your mail will be delivered by various carriers at different times until then…ask your carrier what your situation will be(I’m a carrier and I’ve tried to get the word out on my route so they know that things will improve in October if they are on the part that is going to a newly created route).

GinaParticipantI would actually prefer a later delivery, if a signature is needed.

HollyWMemberI live in Arbor Heights. My mail carrier has delivered at all hours, thrown packages against my front door, consistently delivered my mail to others on my block (and vice versa) AND urinated on my lawn (not kidding). I filed a complaint at the PO – no changes…
