TKDguyParticipantI’m still trying to find creative ways to promote the Hiawatha Tae Kwon Do club at Hiawatha Community Center (2700 California Ave. SW). We have 5 members currently, but we are looking for new members for our ongoing adult (18 and older) classes. I have put fliers up around the junction and I’ve posted information on craigslist and WSblog. I am planning on going out to the WS farmer’s market soon to hand out fliers.
Does anyone have any other ideas on how to get the word out? Are there any health fairs or other WS events that we might participate in or do a demonstration for? Any suggestions are appreciated!
(Classes cost $30/month and meet Mondays & Thursdays 7-8:30pm and Saturdays 11:15am-1:15pm. Beginners are definitely welcome and preferred; new students can join at any time! Please call (206) 684-7441 for questions or registration information.)

MargLMemberSome restaurants – like Toshi’s Teriyaki in Westwood Village, have bulletin boards to post stuff like this on. Folks can read them while waiting for take-out :-) Grocery stores have them too – but they’re usually in a dark corner by the bathrooms.

mom2sorenMemberThings I’ve seen other organizations do:
offer free trial classes (up to 30 days?)
offer free robe
get out into the community & participate in events; set up your booth, and talk to people about what you do; people need a face, not a flier
put on free public demonstrations, such as at community events
which events to attend? everything and anything. those put on by the ymca, library, arts organizations, health fairs, etc… the summer is usually jam packed with public events.

mom2sorenMemberthere’s a health fair going on today at South Central Community College — you could post flyers.
also, have you thought about teaching at the experimental college (UW) just to get your name out?
