How do you protect a wild otter at risk from traffic? We’ve got a resident river otter who lives in the hills above Alki beach, but who has to commute across busy Alki Ave to get to water. Does he need relocating, or do we just hope he remembers to look both ways? We’re concerned. Is there some local or state wildlife agency that might have an answer?

How long have you been on Alki? We have seen that otter or someone related to it dating back probably a decade – have seen it cross Alki Ave and galumph down one of the alleys in the block near Pegasus etc. Does seem precarious but somehow it manages to survive. — TR

The Seattle Aquarium might be of service as far as providing information of what can or should be done??? (Not really sure but is worth a try.) They have a research program called “SEARCCH” (Seattle Aquarium Research Center for Conservation and Husbandry).

I worry about that little guy crossing the street, and if there are ever pups…a whole family trying to cross the street – geesh.
