CountingCoupMemberI am working through a (ahem) character building experience that I thought would provide valuable information for anyone who purchases a iTune gift cards at the Admiral Safeway.
I recently bought a $50.00 gift card in hopes to pick up a few iTune albums that have been recently released.
Safeway gives you an activation receipt so that if you have issues with the card not being activated you can bring it back without any issues provided you bring it back with the card.
When I brought the card home and scratched off the covered area that identifies the code you redeem the card dollar amount for in the iTunes website, the whole area rubbed off in a gooey sticky mess taking the numbers off with it.
What I was left with was a $ 50.00 with no numbers and sticky residue left in its place, similar to having the gummy side of a duck tape left on an item if you removed the tape on a hot summer day.
I went back to Safeway and they said, they do not exchange the gift cards and I would need to contact iTunes to take care of the defective card regardless of the activation receipt or store receipt.
**************************
Wait a minute, I can take back a 60 cent can of corn if that item is defective but I can’t get my money back or get an exchange for a $50.00 iTunes card???
**************************
There is no information on the back of the card, or the backing label cutout the card is placed on to even contact iTunes, whom the Safeway manager told me I would need to resolve the situation.
There is no phone number or information you can call to get it taken care on the card or backing label either from the iTunes product.
So through a series of iTunes website support surfing, and by only email (with exception to chat during the dayhours) I am on the second day working with iTunes to try and either get the card added to my account or get a re-issue as it has not been resolved yet.
Long story short, it has been a total pain and had I known the Admiral Safeway store policy on a defective card, I would not have been purchasing them for the past couple of years.
So this is just fair warning for anyone buying gift cards from Admiral Safeway.
They will not support exchange or refund on defective cards, and you are on your own trying to get reimbursed with the company that the card sponsors.

wundrgrrrlParticipantHow frustrating! Let us know how it works out… I wonder what the policy is from other retailers or if it’s just a Safeway thing. Guess I’ll be asking next time I purchase a gift card!

CountingCoupMemberDay 3, and iTunes took care of it, via (3) emails…
The second set of emails I supplied the other numbers on the card so they could validate it and check to see if it was unused and still active.
I am relieved that it all turned out well, but I just want to inform those who purchase these cards, not to expect the Admiral Safeway store policy to support a return policy if the card is defective.

LindyMemberI have seen that big rack of gift cards and have been tempted, but have never bought one. Thanks for the head’s up! Guess if I want a gift card I will buy it at the actual store. Thanks for the head’s up!
