We have been with Comcast for several years, our monthly bill is now 156.00 for the 3 bundle package (internet, digitial phone and cable), can someone please recommend another company that offers the 3 bundle package. Thanks!

I’m by no means trying to stick up for Comcast (we hate them for the most part), but your rate will come down very quickly as soon as you call and say “I’d like to cancel because my rate is too high.” So, if you’re in one of those lovely areas of West Seattle where dish reception doesn’t come in well, you might try just negotiating your rate. Every time we’ve told them that we’re frustrated that new customers are being treated so much better than we are, we’ve basically been given the promotional deals.

interesting, because last time I called Comcrap to complain about rates they basically told me to pound sand, I could go elsewhere if I thought it could be a better rate. Right now my lack of motivation to take back the stupid cable box is the only reason I haven’t shut them off completely. So, good luck with negotiations – let us know how it goes.

I haven’t paid the inflated rate in years with Comcast. I usually just call and tell them I want to cancel my service which is always followed up with a question of why. I just tell them that if they have any deals going on to lower the rates then I would consider not cancelling.

The only time they usually give you a hard time is if they know they have you by the nuts.

I don’t recommend CenturyLink. I just switched to Comcast, and as about as happy with a giant non-customer focused mega business as can be. *shrug*

Unfortunately the quality of our internet was so poor with the DLS from CLink, that it’s worth the extra money for good cable from Comcast. I’m sorry I’m not helping the “dumping Comcast” question you asked, but it might not be worth it to search to Clink. I think those are our only two choices here for a bundle.

I’ll second the recommendation for calling Comcast about it. Husband called and basically said the price had ballooned over the years to a ridiculous cost, and without further question they reduced it by $15 a month. Still probably a giant rip off, but we are heavy users and have never had a problem with service.

I would just say avoid CenturyLink like the plague. Their bundles are so convoluted and confusing that you have NO idea what you’re being sold, for how much, or for how long. The salesmen outright lie to beef up the “sale”. Customer service is horrendous. The choices for these services are unfortunately very poor.

Have you considered unbundling? Often you can get lower rates by choosing separate packages. I use Limited Basic Cable (~$15, channels 2-29, HD over the air make sure to choose the long channel scan on your TV), High Speed Internet is around $40-50 depending on the speed you choose and I think their basic $30 internet is faster than CLink. Purchase your own modem ($80 from amazon) and router ($50-100) and save on the $8 monthly rental fee. My Comcast bill is around $63.

Basic phone service from CLink is around $14 without the bells and whistles. With cell phones most of the calling features are not necessary, like call waiting.

There’s your triple play for less than $100 a month.

Good luck dealing with the comcast sales drones. I recently did the online “chat with sales” and asked about internet only. It took nearly a half hour to get them to admit there even was such a critter. Then he would not admit that there was an economy version of the “performance” option until I pointed out that the FCC had recently fined comcast for hiding the lowest priced tier on the website. The fine was miniscule compared to the profit they make from their monopoly, so I am sure there will be no changes to the web site…

We just have Internet with Comcast. We also had to jump through lots of hoops to get the Internet only option. We have not had cable tv for years and don’t miss it a bit. Before that we had qwest for Internet and it was way too slow. Comcast is much better for speed and has been reliable. I would also try the call and cancel threat. When we got rid of direct tv, they were offering me all kinds of good deals to stay. Good luck.

Just to add another idea to the mix: i just got an iPhone through Verizon, which I believe can be used as a mobile hotspot for an additional $30/month or so (need to verify the details). If that’s so, I’ll skip Comcast completely, use my smartphone for all calls, mobile hotspot for home Internet and then instead of cable do what we’ve been doing for the past couple years – get a Roku box (one time purchase of $70) and watch Netflix movies on TV ($10/mo) This is still an idea in progress, so I’ll update you when I learn more…

Verizon has limits on the data download and speeds are not great. I would not count on watching many netflix movies.

It seems it might be unhelpful to offer an answer that doesn’t quite answer the question as posed.

    However…

I humbly suggest you take stock in how much TV you actually watch monthly and see if you can’t “cut the cord,” so to speak. I have Comcast for internet only. Between full-time work and a toddler, we probably have less time than the average to actually watch the TV, but we still find that between what is available via Amazon Prime and what we can get to the tv with the “PlayOn” product AND my habit of snagging stuff from the library…we still have way more content that we can actually watch.

and we really do NOT miss the extra dough out the door each month.

Again, I realize how unhelpful this is if you really want/need cable TV, but after many long years of blindly paying for access to loads of channels, it turns out I wasn’t really watching most of them anyhow.

I go with Clearwire for my internet. You can also get phone through them. I am in the Admiral District and I get a very solid connection. Speed wise it is between DSL and cable (closer to the DSL side of things) but I have never had any issues with the service.

You can get a phone line through them as well. I can not attest to the quality of it since I just use Skype for my phone use.

As far as TV goes, I have both a Netflix streaming and Hulu Plus account so that takes care of about 90% of what I care to watch. Since I have a ‘smart’ TV, I can stream these directly to the TV for viewing. You can also buy media devices that will connect to your TV and do the same thing. Roku and Boxee are two brands that come to mind.

NormanBell37, I am going to try and save you some heartache. DHG is correct when they write that Verizon has a cap for both data and speed. They claim to have unlimited plans but those will pretty severely throttle the speed once you hit a certain data usage level. If I recall correctly at around 5 gig in a month you get your speed throttled down, and that is about 3 streamed non high def movies.

dhg and Bizket – a belated thank you for your insights. I’ve determined the same and won’t be trying this plan, but I’m still itching to get around having to go with Comcast or CenturyLink. Alas, may have to bite the bullet.

(By the way – just checking, what country are we in? Only two choices available for internet? Only one choice if you want to watch the Olympics? Is this the USA or USSR?)

I have said it before and I will say it again. I must admit that I’m a satisfied (well… for the most part) Comcast customer and think they provide a GREAT service, IF you can wade through their corporate BS.

Sadly but true, they really are the ONLY game in West Seattle right now, if you are looking for high speed internet. Their phone service is great too!

My wife and I have Directv for television, which in my opinion is superior to Comcast.

Once Comcast gets some real competition – WATCH OUT, as you will notice an EXTREME change in their current “monopolistic” attitude.

In the mean time, if high speed internet is what you are looking for, then bite the bullet and put up with “Comcast” or whatever you prefer to call them :)
